For those of you mentioning the 787, won't the engines be painted in white?

Yep. The only options for the 787 are white and grey right?

I think the only airline that has 787 in service (Or did) that has grey engines is QR. Everyone else's are white

What can I say that others haven't said already. I'm not a fan of BA's current livery, but it looks AWESOME on the A380. Also it's the best A380 livery of any airline. Two thumbs up.

I don't like it; it doesn't seem to fit right, I have thought this for a long time since seeing the artists impressions. It is the 'speed mark' that doesn't seem to look right. The blue belly seems too low as well. I also do not get the point of BA adding 'crests' to its fleet that are barely visible.

A380 in BA livery is still ugly A380. Sorry, I don't think I'll ever get to like this plane. The same for the 747. I just hate double deckers.

Quoting baldwin471 (Reply 100):
Yep. The only options for the 787 are white and grey right?

Wrong.

I believe Boeing recommended white because of its weight.

Boeing also did recommend to paint nacelles in single colour to prevent the laminar air flow from being disrupted by the paint layer borders, however, it did not specify that it HAS to be white. White is their recommendation and most airlines are going for it, should BA ask Boeing to paint nacelles of their Dreamliners blue, Boeing will do it.

So it's up to the customer airline, really.

After BA got rid of the World Tails, I've been a big fan of their livery, but the grey crest has to go. It's completely incongruous with the rest of the livery. The crest is stodgy and stuffy, and the whole point of changing the livery from the previous Landor scheme was to get rid of that image. The Speedmarque and the waving Union Flag on the tail were supposed to represent a softer image. I'm glad it's only on a handful of aircraft so far, and they seem to be slow in putting it on the fleet.

Best looking livery on the 380 by quite a bit, IMO. KE's is still nice, but BA's screams Classic Beauty. Even looks better than on a 744. Well done. The 1st 380 I've honestly thought is drop dead beautiful.

Other than that, maybe AMS?

Not 100% ok with the BA livery on the A380.... IMHO the BA livery more suits the 767, 777 and A318 and family and of course the 747's. The 787 will ROCK the BA colours! But the A380? not so. I mean it looks very nice, but the A380 is kind of, well fat and pudgy, and looks better in super sleek minimal colours. QF, EK and AF do this very well. QF slightly more so with Big Red on the tail...

however congratulations to BA, always nice to have another A380 family member.

General public opinion is totally contrary to this, BA is about the UK and its traditions. Thats why they serve clotted cream scones for afternoon tea in J World tails and trying to be modern was a PR disaster, whereas the crest and the recent advertising campaign based on BA's heritage has gone down well.

With regard to the freshly painted A380, does it now head off for wing repairs, explaining why delivery isn't until July ?

The A380 is an ugly plane so there isn't much you can do about that.

I've seen very few ugly aircraft in my life.

The Boeing Stratocruiser wasn't exactly slim and slender, and it had a heck of a snub nose, but gee, it was a wonderful sight.

I prefer aircraft that have some personality, some distinction about them, not these bland interchangeable things we see so many of now.

Certainly not as good as Korean Air's livery. That looks sharp.

I think it looks very simple and clean. I like it. I tend to like trendy designs with simplicity. Although, the average consumer will glance at it as they board or waiting in the gate area and probably not do more, than a quick glance.

I would love to see an A380 in the new American Livery as it's very simple with a touch of boldness to the tail. I think these two would be similar in similar boldness on the tail, simple on the fuselage.

The A380 indeed looks stunning in BA livery! What would really be special would be an A380 painted in Air New Zealand's All Blacks scheme. The closest examples I could find were an All Blacks 747-8, and a black A380.

I agree. The change from the Landor livery was made because people complained the livery added a bit of "arrogance" to BA. The crest brings a bit of that arrogance back. Not only that, but it sticks out on the plane like a sore thumb.

Speaking of World Tails, I think the A380 would be stunning in Animals and Trees or Whalerider IMHO.

It certainly doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in person. Try eyeballing the difference at LHR, it's not easy. It's barely visible, quite intentionally so. BA was always arrogant, BOAC more so, the idea didn't come along with Landor.

I heard it was not even from LHR!

Seriously? how come?
it should be, since LHR is BA's official base isn't it? and i dont think Gatwick or other major airports in UK such as manchestel will operate the A380.
PS their first service is from LHR to LAX starting in October as I've heard.
Iran Air, we take you there, we take you back!

Don't worry, it'll be LHR!
However heard talk of a promo flight or two down around LGW!

On pilot training certainly away from LHR - you think LHR suitable for bumps and go rounds !

Likely Manston/Prestwick/Shannon even dare I say somewhere like Brize Norton !

There will be cabin crew familiarisation flights within the scheduled network close to entry however these may not be publicised and will need to operate into designated CAT F airports.

Within Europe that means Madrid competitor Hubs or Manchester !
