This news just surfaced that a certain Krunk Air of Armenia may be taking over Armavia's role claiming to be getting an A340 soon!

http://news.am/eng/news/147462.html

However, according to Armenia's Civil Aviation authorities, no such airline exists. In Armenian, Krunk means crane thus the photo in the below article:

Wasn't there a proposal some time ago to lease an A340 and fly between Armenia and California?

Hmm I'll honestly have to believe it when I see it.

But then again there's a lot of A340s floating around.

Yeeeeaaahhhh!

Seriously, Lil John was the first thing that came to mind. What does Krunk mean in Armenia?

Yes, Armavia wanted an A340 for EVN-LAX-EVN.

I'd love to see an A340 in an Armenian livery. I even designed an FSX texture for one earlier in the week.

Anyway, getting back on topic, apparently Krunk Air isn't even registered in Armenia.

Did anyone else notice that rather interesting looking Airbus Beluga in the article?

Yes, at one stage they were thinking of getting the A340-500s that Kingfisher never took up. Ironically (and sadly IMO) one of them has been delivered to Azerbaijan a few weeks ago. According to the US diplomatic cables (thankyou Wikileaks) they were also thinking of getting a 767 at one stage.

I don't think smaller countries do themselves a favor with airline names that noone outside their country understands... in fact, even ARMavia was already a bit off...

And have it fly to LAX, yes. Seriously though, I'm sure they'd fill that thing...

Merging the words Armenia + Aviation. Could be worse.

There are certainly enough Armenian-Americans, part Armenians, slightly Armenians (like me I guess) and expat Armenians in California lol.

Yeah, especially out in New Yerevan, I mean Glendale. I'm always surprised that LAX doesn't have a presence from Armavia. But it would be great to at least get Krunk out here. Take that last sentence how you will,

I'm sure load factors would be decent. Now whether the yields would be high as well, that is extremely unlikely on such a long sector.

Didn't U8 have an agreement with LY to connect passengers from LAX via TLV? I could have sworn that they had been working together on a one-stop solution.

They should just name it "Otanav"
and call it a day.

Some bold statement by Krunk director:

“We are ready to invest EUR 750 million in case of having no obstacle,” Armenpress quoted Poghosyan, underlining they were ready to bring 8 planes to Yerevan.

They should look at 5th-Freedom connection opportunities from my hometown... the name alone would make it very popular in YVR!
