Aborted Landings At NRT Today (Video Link)

Just saw these crazy aborted touch and go landings or (TOGA) on the news today one is LH and can't make out what the other is.

Is it me or does it seem as if the Lufthansa flight had to abort its landing when a wind pushed it from the side? (when its right wheels were already down on the ground)

NHK briefly showed a Jetstar A320 abortng landing. Strong winds regularly affect NRT landings. It was only newsworthy in the context of the intense spring storm that blew through on the weekend.

The wind yesterday was so intense, gusts over 50+ mph were reported all around tokyo. When it is breezy like this, these crosswinds are common, prompting these go-arounds. No one wants to repeat FX 80 or that NH 767 which got damaged from a hard landing during extreme crosswinds.

We landed yesterday morning (Apr 7) at NRT (AF276 from CDG / A388) with very strong crosswinds. Almost had to divert to NGO...

Think LH was the flight ex MUC, diverting to HND and finally delayed for the return until tomorrow morning.

The TOGA acronym is usually used to mean Take-Off/Go Around which is a thrust setting commonly found on most Boeing or Airbus aircraft.

Our options were NGO and then KIX.
The winds were strong also at NGO but were more or less in the axis of the Rwy ...

There was only a short span of a couple hours that day where the winds were blowing out of the south down the runway. Most of the evening it was 130 - 100 degrees at 35+ knots, gusts between 45 and 55 knots. On runway 18 that's a significant crosswind component.

I do confirm, they only decided to divert after their third attempt seen on the nos.nl clip. Both AZA784 (763) and NCA109 (748) opted for HND after a first try. Several others like TZ 772, FX, 5X MD11s got it right on the second round. We managed to land on the first attempt earlier in the morning to 16L, but the wind gusts were so forceful our plane was still dancing to its side incl. some nice wingflex during disembarkation at the gate. While spotting on the obs deck at T1 - LH's MUC service arrival time - we had to grab the railing at certain moments not to be blown away. It remains for sure a memorable day. Would be nice to see some materials taken from other vantage points that day, like the Sakura no Yama park at the end of rwy 16R.
