With what aircraft? Doesn't AI have 777's parked trying to lease or sell those, plus the 787's are not up to their standards either, and AI wants cash for the delays, but also what AI called Less than advertised, or optimal performance on long haul routes? I do not get AI, one week they are in the toilet, and next week they are flying to half a dozen new places, yet they can't keep routes from the US profitable?

Short answer No !
This is one airline that Birmingham may well have in the bag
Frankly do you really want an airline so corrupt swayed by political interference and mood swings ?
You know that the A310 services back in the nineties were suspended because of Delhi's desire to move migrant workers to the Middle East and no other reason.
IMHO Manchester would be better served with a year round scheduled by Jet in association with Etihad.
The frequency levels need to be at least five weekly and the destination to be Delhi.
Low frequencies to both Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay) would be economically useless.

There is no direct flight currently from MAN to any Indian destination. There is scope for an airline to do well on this sector to be honest. There is good number of population in Northwest + Yorkshire region of England who will be benefited from direct flight either MAN-BOM or MAN-DEL. 9W has potential to start this service, god knows about AI.

Birmingham has been tried before by AI and other airlines. All have failed, because London area airports are too close and cost competitive, plus there is not enough premium passengers. However MAN is different, it is quite a distance from London area and there are sufficient passengers atleast from DEL, also it can lure passengers from BHM area. Ideal flight would be BOM-DEL-MAN by Air India, in the smallest long haul aircraft available perhaps about 4 times a week, which is a good frequency. Currently most of the traffic is via middle east carriers due to their excellent connections to cities other than BOM/DEL, even BA does not get that much of the MAN traffic as it is always priced higher.

Why is this? There is no significant Indian population in North West England, compared with large numbers in the West Midlands and nearby Leicestershire (and of course London). Not to mention business links like JLR/Tata.
Do you have the same demand figures for BHX? Would be nice to compare.

I wonder why the ATQ figure is so far out. Amritsar is predicted as 6,000 passengers demand in 2012 when Turkmenistan Airlines carried 59,202 on BHX-ASB-ATQ.
Delhi seems accurate (the only other one I can compare) with 40,000 carried on BHX-DEL in 2007, its last full year of operation. Although since this was joint with YYZ and ATQ stops it is difficult to judge how many seats were actually available for BHX.

Reason I would prefer 9W, as they have potential with decent fleet and good customer service. They have got good domestic connectivity too. All people who wants to connect to BLR, HYD, ATQ,Kolkata would happily take it I guess.

Yes. At least one 777 is stored at BOM for some months already, I took photoproof of it though the registration was not visible to me. Saw a second one also that looked as if being parked for some time. Heavily covered with dust like the 787s. Havent the 77Ls not been sold or leased out to some Russian carrier recently, I mean a deal has been signed to do so soon?

Yep quite wrong actually both BA and Air India have served the Manchester - India markets in the past
Air India using A310-300s via several mainland Europe points and British Airways using Boeing 747 en-route Hong Kong.
The numbers from behamjee seem a little dubious (and need verification) to me however the dispersal of the various Sub Continental Diaspora's differ form region to region within England.
For instance the West Midlands has a concentration of ethnic Hindi, Sikh and Jains all from areas of India.
The North West and Yorkshire Diaspora's are primarily Bangladeshi and Pakistani .

Ok should have worded that differently. There is a "large" (ok subjective term there) diaspora in the North West, but relative to those other regions I mentioned it is quite a bit smaller.
