Around 2000 AV already had a miserable livery called "Summa" which fortunately disappeared quickly. I hope that this austerity scheme will suffer the same fate.
Its so sad, all niceties in aviation slowly disappear these days, diversity, trijets, quads, nice liveries. If this goes on 10 years more I might well have to chance my hobby...

Yep it did..it went from anilla to Vanilla Bean...good lrd what an ugly (or a better term would be lack of) livery...srely the brand designers couldve come up with something far better than a red version of jetBlue....

The new Tail is ridiculous, Looks like a bunch of miss matched red stuck in the wrong place.. I just really dont understand the logic behind airlines choices. They are all awful, The only one that took a bigger step backward then Avianca is TAME.. Theirs went from unique to abysmal.

Who designed it? Any branding agency claiming credit?

Also, if the intent is to get big, more widebodies, fight LATAM (even with long hauls from Brazil) this looks so ordinary. The old one was vibrant and distinctive. What kind of CMO decides "let's make our airline look more like the others, undifferenciated, as we plan to fight a behemoth" ???

Eurowhite liveries only work in two situations to me.

1) if the livery its replacing was outdated like Philippine Airlinees or senseless for the times Garuda in the 1980s

Avianca does not fall in either of the two categories.

It now looks like they wanted to look like TAM...and who the hell would want that! Avianca really stood out at SDU and CGH. Now just the odd Azul and VARIG planes will.

I hate them also, Because they make no sense.. They keep getting rid of logos and icons for wavy random lines that mean nothing. Even the colours have no relevance, its horrible.

For all practical purposes, I am going to jump to AV's defense and vote in favor of this livery not so much for aesthetic reasons but for economic reasons. Less paint on it for now will lighten the weight, lessen the fuel prices, and hopefully lower the fares. However, I think that is a smart move economically as they need to absorb the costs of integration. Once it becomes more established, then maybe then modify the livery later?

Why would they copy AA's latest logo??? I bet AV/TA will have to modify it; it'll create too much confusion and both airlines belong to Star not oneworld. Way too similar to "new AA's" eagle! Wow!

Eh... I'm not too convinced by this new livery, even though it resembles the current TA livery (and I do have a soft spot for that one, emotional attachment and all). The current AV livery looks better IMO.

I like the tail, the winglets and the engine cowlings. It is a pity that the rest of the fuselage is now all-white. Hopefully it will look better once the "Avianca" letters are applied.

On the other hand, at least we end up keeping the name of the airline as Avianca, so oh well... what can you do...

As much as I think Avianca is a mediocre airline, I loved their iconic livery.

This just looks horrible. Sad rebranding effort.

I also have to get used to this new livery (their current livery is much better) but I think over time I will get used to it just as I now find the new AA livery to be very nice. Maybe that's because I like new things (cars, houses, aircraft and airline liveries)

Agreed. The old AA livery desperately needed a refresh, but the AV color scheme was fine as it is.

It indeed makes a resemblance with the current livery of TACA.
The TACA brand will definitely disappear and their customers will experience a gradual process involving the unification into AV: frequent flyer program, commonality in flight designators, new image of the airline and other factors which cannot be clearly understood for the average of their customers.

I have been reviewing the pix of the new livery again and again. This livery must be a joke. It is primitive. It is ugly. It completely removes Avianca's 'red', which is recognized everywhere. Stupid decision.

Agree 100%. It is amazing how much creativity is lacking from '' new '' aircraft liveries nowadays. Boring personified !! Everyday the sky is getting more and more boring indeed. I thought the " new " AA was awful...this is even worst IMO. Such a shame. ( Big Yawn )

What I don't get is the reason for this livery change. They only relatively recently introduce the current one.

Was there recently any sort of change within Avianca? A management change? Or perhaps a merger of some sort?

Avianca has merged with TACA and is dropping the TACA brand. No doubt that is why this new livery looks to be partially inspired by the current TACA livery.
