2nd Daily PHL-TLV On US?

Fri May 03, 2013 8:55 pm

I heard rumors that US is looking to start a 2nd flight between PHL and TLV? Any truth to this rumor and if so would this be daily as well? Cheers!

If somehow the merger falls through then it is likely. With the merge there are a number of issues still up in the air (search "AA/TWA TLV and/or Israel")

Assuming those issues are resolved, it is likely that PHL remains at 1 daily, possibly with a 772 and then JFK sees the second flight.

In the event the airline continues to fly TLV once the merger is completed I would highly doubt PHL hets a second frequency to TLV. Most probably an upgauge to the 772 once it is converted to a 2 cabin configuration.

I agree on both points.

US have done well with TLV, despite what some naysayers said when it was launched.

A good friend of mine that works with US in Baltimore says, the reason that the USAirways certificate was the one retained is, so they would not have those issues plague them, that have kept American Airlines from flying to TLV.

It was some minor maneuvering now, that US is expecting will allow them to continue to fly to TLV without having to become responsible for the old TW debt that has been why AA has not flown to TLV.

What do you mean "the one retained"? There has been no actual merger so US only has US' certificate. Sounds like your friend is misinformed.

I suspect both JFK and PHL will each have a TLV flight long-term.

I wasn't aware that any firm decisions had been made on which certificate was to be retained. And besides, I'm not sure what it would matter with respect to this issue - I don't believe the TWA entanglements in Israel are in any way tied to the operating certificate, but rather the legal entity. The two carriers have filed to transfer all of US' route authority to AA - not the other way around - when the merger closes.

In the event AA continues TLV, I highly doubt PHL will maintain TLV service when AA has JFK, MIA and ORD.

I highly doubt they will choose a certificate based on the TLV issue.
