AA-US Codeshare

I tried searching this topic but I didn't find an exact match so I decided to open a new thread. When do you think AA and US will begin their codeshare? Predictions? Will it be all routes and if not which ones? Will US have to be completely out of star alliance for this to occur? What are the other possible impediments? Scope? Antitrust? Fear of effects on slot divestiture process? How much will US revenue suffer from loss of UA connectivity during the transition?

According to this article, it will be "within weeks" of the merger approval:

Thirdly, Kirby said, "We've got a process that's going extremely well," with teams from the two airlines working closely together. "We're going to get the code share up within weeks compared to what's taken much longer at some other mergers. I think we're going to hit the ground running and get the operational integration done effectively and with very minimal customer disruption."

It will be all routes. Why bother with the added complexity of selecting routes for codesharing. It will be just like the HP-US merger.

No. Codesharing between members of different alliances happens all the time (ie QF-AF). Since this is the beginning of a merger, Star alliance really has no say in the matter.

Yes, Last I heard was Aug/Sep timeframe

well, that has to be negotiated between UA and US.

I imagine US has to give some notice prior to departure from *A as well, but codeshares can don't have to end when that happens

If you look beyond Jan 1, 2014, UA codeshares are not showing on US' website (at least for me).
I call the dusty desert my home. :)

US stopped selling US* opd by UA flights a few weeks ago in order to reduce passenger inconvience one the codeshare agreement is canceled

Who knows if that route will even exist in 2014? The financial situation in Greece is hardly stable. Just look at how UA pulled out of the market. I'm surprised DL is still there.
(On a side note, Wikipedia is not a legitimate source although it's a great place to start gathering info and tracking it down through real sources.)


I'm excited to see what happens come Aug/Sept when the merger gets approved. I have a feeling things will move relatively quickly after that and we will all be slobbering as each day new information is disclosed.
I'm not complaining, I'm critiquing...

If ATH sticks around and if it i flies out of PHL in the summer of 2014 the 763 would be the perfect aircraft on the run.

Thanks, that was awesome to see, you will notice how every corner of the country is swamped with routes, flights and hubs, then comes the Pacific Northwest, I certainly hope AA expands more in the region, EUG, RDM so far... next MFR, BOI again and GEG with maybe PSC too.
