The airway has quite a jog , a good reason not to take too much notice of GC distances.

If the speeds are accurate, EK318 Super A380 just flew directly over QR802 going 137 mph faster than the AI 787.

The 787 is faster than the A380 by.5 Mach

So how about some actual information instead of a list of "Well done blah". Which flight? Is it daily? Or is it a one off? Given it's a capacity reduction from a B777 (and not so far off a B747),it's not clear Air India are doing at all well....

well as you said we aren't completely sure if its daily so it could be a one-off flight for prestige.

AI were flying their 787s to LHR from DEL before the entire fleet was grounded. They might even have flown them from BOM, although I'm not sure about that. Its definitely not AI's first 787 flight to LHR.

Not surprising when they collectively lost $6,693m on a net basis between 2006 and 2011, with an average margin of -36.9%, i.e. a loss of 36.9 cents in every $1 in revenue.

Didn't you know the 787 is a stealth supercruiser?

Who needs a Mach 0.95 Sonic cruise if we have a Mach 1.3 787?

Ok, enough fun...

But they're making it up in volume.

And AI will do so much better now that EY is helping out 9W...

Mach number is dependent on altitude.

Good news for AI,

Cruise Speed usually also depends on the operator Cost Index and the route. But theoretically the B787 is faster.

No, it depends on local speed of sound that depends on relative temperature in K degrees...

They are reducing to adjust the route to real demand and to reduce operational costs.

Horrible, maybe the worse in the world, and this is going to be worse and worse with the expansion of low cost in India, plus the middle eastern carriers adding more flights to India.
Let´s see if they can make some profit with the new routes they are about to open, but i don´t see much future fot them as well, I know many Indians and they rather flight Emirates or Qatar to the UK over AI, I think jet airways is much better consider inside India and with the new scissor hub moving to AMS I´m sure they can even attract more pax to UK specially give extraordinary network to the UK from AMS.

Are you sure? I think this is first time AI have sent 787 to LHR. They used to send to FRA before all grounding issues.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure! I remember reading they were scheduled to start flights to LHR and shortly after that I had a friend from India visit me here in London and he said he flew the 787 and was really excited about it - I assumed they had started flights. I just googled it and couldn't find anything, so I think I am actually wrong. Now I'm wondering if I should tell my friend.

No AI have never flown their 787s to LHR before the grounding, yesterday (22 May 13) was the first one.

AI will be operating AI115/116 daily with the 787.
