Saw this on Facebook, Air Canada rouge's first Airbus a319 is painted. It doesn't look as bad as I had thought it would, not so much like an AB ripoff. I like the font they used for the word ROUGE. Can't wait t osee the mighty 767 in this colorscheme!

None of these markets being served by Rouge are important to the AC brand or network. Everytime AC ventures from its core business, they fail. AC seems to have this Crown Corporation attitude that it must serve every single market Canadians want to fly.

To be perfectly honest, I think that that livery is boring, plain and just like every other livery rolling out for any airline for rebranding.
Seems like the formulas are either:
1: Add a lot of blue and eurowhite to the fuselage, tail and branding. Incorporate birds or people into livery.
2: Eurowhite, red tail, white logo and small titles. Have some sort of national imagery for the logo and branding.
3: Eurowhite with some colour on the tail. Maybe add a little colour to the fuselage. Then disregard livery and fly most aircraft as flying billboards.

They should have smacked a big red maple leaf right on the nose, or and something to the front which is very plain. Why are the most interesting liveries from Asia nowadays?

Every other airline out there these days just takes their titles and logos and slaps it on the plane, Although the front of this A/C is mostly white and people will be immediately drawn to the tail which again looks really nice.

The new AA livery certainly doesn't fit any of the formulas you listed, since it's silver. Although it does have billboard lettering and some national imagery on the tail
That said, I like the Rouge livery, although it does look a bit like Air Berlin. I think that Air Berlin has more red on the fuselage than Rouge. I like the Rouge shade of red better than Air Berlin red.

In relation to the population, the Canadian air travel market, both domestic and international, is quite large. Compare it, for example, to Mexico with more than 3 times Canada's population.

It's fine...bit bland and safe, but I suppose that's the Canadian way.
I certainly wasn't expecting something à la Nok Air, only in a Canada Goose scheme!

Exactly . This is classy and reminds me too of the once iconic AC livery that was ruined . This is actually nicer than the AC livery . Ironic that. It will look amazing on the B767.

Proof that sometimes simplicity is the right approach. Yes, it's rather conservative however it is at the same time attractive. I'm also of the opinion that the Air Canada font could be a bit larger, however it is a good start. Looking forward to seeing the 767 version. It's nice to see a flashback to the old AC livery.

Air Canada was small on Tango as well. It seems like the same concept, but it is Rouge in a different font, color, and different tail.
What is rogue going to be like? Could we call it the equivalent of Little Red or the former Ted (to UA) or is that going to be the new AC Jazz?

No, it's going to target leisure markets with little premium demand with a product and cost structure to permit them to compete more effectively with Air Transat, Sunwing and similar leisure carriers.

The Polaris started its life in red, white and blue for Wardair which was a very classy livery! Repaint it, replace the Wardair with Canada and call it a day.

Okay; thank you for the information.
Do you believe rouge will be successful? To me it seems like a bad idea because luxury airlines do not generally do well. VX offers a very nice in-flight product, but something is wrong because their finances are not in order; Maxjet (all business class from Eastern U.S. to London) went out of business. To me, it seems like it could work if the prices are high. What do you think?

Rouge target is not luxury services but rather the opposite end of the scale, low-yield mass markets.

I believe the two aircrafts were pictured in the Avianor facility in Mirabel YMX, but I do not know if they where painted there/by them.
if your flight goes MX in YUL, I might be called to fix it!

I think the Air Canada name has significant value for passengers who may otherwise question the reputation of an unknown brand like Rouge, with respect to safety and reliability etc. Not everyone, especially in markets outside Canada, would necessarily be aware that it's an AC subsidiary.
Hotel chains with multiple brands do much the same thing (Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, Homewood Suites by Hilton, etc. etc.).
And is it odd-looking? It looks like the standard AC font and logo to me.

Tango failed in part because it was shackled to AC's cost structure. Not sure what the ACA / Rouge relationship will be. But, the FA's will be getting $1600/month at startup, so that's a difference right there.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Which came first, the RCAF or the Conservative Party? Looks to me like it's made to match the classic RCAF roundel, which I love. But I suppose partisans will see what they want to see.

Tango didn't fail, it's still alive and well as a fare structure, althought tango+ has been changed to Flex.
This was the beginning of the A la carte pricing that AC has done well with. Now everyone is doing it!

Then you would know that people have different interpretations of the same thing. Some people (me) saw it as matching the RCAF roundel (blue and red), other saw it as matching the Conservative Party colours (also blue and red).
