BA Fleet News

Sun Jun 02, 2013 5:03 pm

Hi all,

With deliveries of A380, 788 and more A32x very shortly for BA I thought a new thread to discuss delivery status might be good.

Also the interior refurb of all 777 is apparently complete and according to BASource only 14 747s left with old first.
http://www.thebasource.com/british-a...eturns-from-cardiff-maintenance-2/

According to Jethros website G-DOCX is in maintenance for damaged bulkhead, does anyone have anymore news on cause and is this a big task to repair?

Anyway, exciting couple of months ahead for BA with new aircraft joining fleet and probably we'll start to see some retirements over the next year too.

Your thoughts and any news or updates very much appreciated.

According to FlightAware, it's 12 minutes from Malaga.

It's 737s, 747s and 380s. Not 737's, 747's and 380's. Learn to use the apostrophe for crying out loud.

Thanks standedinbgm, DOCX news on Jethros must be slightly out of date then.

Now that the 787's are flying again is there an updated timeline for BA's first planes and/or their first planned route? I know there was talk of some of the longest 767 routes being converted to 787.

A number of BA's 737 aircraft and Airbus aircraft have undergone maintenance. Both G-DOCT and G-DOCX returned after under going maintenance at Sofia on the 26th May. G-DOCT had been at Sofia since 24 April and G-DOCX since 08 May

Does this mean the 777-200ER's now have the same product in economy as the 777-300ERs? (eg. Same seats and same IFE system...)

So what B744s do not have the New First? BA Source doesn't seem to have it front and centre.

And are these 14 going to get the new first or will they be leaving the fleet following the upcoming B773ER and A388 deliveries?

They are all 'Mid J' aircraft configured F14 / J52 / W36 / Y235. I believe they are G-BNLF, 'LI, 'LJ, 'LL, 'LM, 'LR, 'LS, 'LW to 'LZ and G-CIVA to 'VC.

G-STBG is due for delivery on a 10 year lease in September. 'BH, also on a 10 year lease, should follow in November. Then there two more (bought) 77Ws, 'BI and 'BJ, that are scheduled for delivery in the same months of 2014.

All the 772s that used to be fitted with the Rockwell Collins 18-Channel IFE System (G-VIIO to 'IY, G-YMMA to 'ML and 'MN to 'MP excepting G-VIIS) were fitted with the new Thales AVOD System in all seats when they were fitted with the New Club World seats in 2008-09. They have not been fitted with the upgraded W or Y cabins.

All those 4-class 772s originally fitted with the GEC Marconi GMIS System (G-RAES, G-VIIA to 'IN and G-ZZZA to 'ZC have been all fitted with the New F and the upgraded W and Y cabins with the Thales AVOD System in all seats as had G-VIIS, the last aircraft to be retro-fitted with the new F cabin, when it was returned to service on 31 May last.

No, the 744 wont get the new Y and Y+ products as the 744s will be the first to go as the new aircraft arrive

We may also see G-ZBJB delivered in June.
.
As I suggested in another thread I am still wondering about an A v B joust at the Paris Salon with both manufacturers displaying their greatest and latest in BA Union Flag livery before onward delivery of the aircraft to the airline. I say this even though G-ZBJA is still in the queue behind two other 787s for its first flight. One reason that I think makes this at least possible is that with the first BA 380 ready or very nearly ready for delivery and the possibility of two BA 787 deliveries in June why has there been no announcement of actual delivery dates?

This would all be very reminiscent of a much smaller event back in 1997. Then Embraer showed off the first British Regional Airlines E 145 in the Paris Salon static display. It was still registered to Embraer and carried its test registration 'PT-SYM' on its upper rear fuselage. In the static park white tape covered its future registration, 'G-EMBA', that had already been painted on its engines. It had arrived at LBG on 11 June in the then very new BA Irish 'Colum / Dove' livery, the first aircraft to be publicly seen in that 'World Image' colour scheme. And on its ferry flight from SJK to LBG it had displayed both its Brazilian test and future British registrations , the tapes on the latter only being applied after it arrived in Paris.

After the Salon it was delivered and registered to BRAL on 17 July.

Apparently there were plans to replace the old 734s that fly out of LGW with ex-BMI A319/320 frames but for some reason they weren't quite suitable - can't recall why though!

Don't quite understand you.
There are 5 ex-BMI A319 flying ar LGW now, and an A320 has just joined them (G-MEDK).
More will follow?, or do you know more than me.

Excellent - maybe BA will use the presence of its A380 at the show to announce a top up order too....I can but dream

On the downside does it mean our beloved prime-minister will be there to smooch all over the A380 while the rest of us can only look from afar.

Great news... I am planning to go to the show for the first time. Does anyone recommend it. Can someone come close to aircraft, visit stands and buy goodies (aircraft models, etc..?). Thanks
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

I went to Paris airshow two years ago and you can get pretty close, the A380 did a good display that weekend.

The text in the link does says the BA A380 will be at show the first few days so maybe one of the test A380s will be at the show on the public weekend, I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me. Hopefully BA will want to do some PR

Perhaps a tad confused here. These aircraft did not get Thales. They simply had the RC system with AVOD installed when they had the new first and club installed!

The old GMIS aircraft however have had Thales installed along with the new WT/WTP seats!
My views are my own and do not reflect any other person or organisation.

More will follow?, or do you know more than me.

BA will begin to retire there 737 fleet at the end of the summer . Another 3, possibly 4, 737's will be retired for the fleet by late March 2014 and the last aircraft due to leave by late 2016. The aircraft will be replaced by A320 family aircraft already operating at LHR. BA plan to permanently base the majority, if not all, of the airbus aircraft currently at LGW. The LGW airbus fleet is planned to double for S14.

The A319's at LGW are all ex BD. BA had originally planned to reconfigure the cabins on these aircraft from 138/144 seats to the BA standard 132 seat. However it was decided that the higher density configuration would be suited to BA's LGW operation. From what I can gather all 11 of the ex BD A319's (G-DBCA-K) will be over time transfered to LGW.

BA transfered the ex BD A320, G-MEDK to LGW a couple of days ago. The transfer if believed to be permanent. The aircraft is the only A320 in BA's fleet that is not able to handle containerised baggage making it not suitable for operations at Heathrow T5. The aircraft is, like all the ex BD A320's configured with 168 seats which is 6 seats more than the rest of the fleet.

I don't know if BA are planning to transfer the remaining 5 ex BD A320's to LGW. BA could decide to reconfigure the aircraft into the standard 162 seat configuration and continue to operate them at LHR.
