I should have the overall June TK traffic reports in the next week or so, but I don't think there was a traffic decline at the end when the numbers get published.

As DHMI has reported Turkish airports saw record arrivals in June;
IST +18%
SAW +18%
ESB +16%
ADA +13%
ADB +10%
AYT +8%
etc...

I know TK performance out of markets like North America was very strong for the month as well, with continued good future bookings.

According to an article in the Dutch transport paper "Nieuwsblad Transport", TK hopes to start cargo flights to the US in Q4 2013 or at least H1 2014. They're currently evaluating which transit point to use and Maastricht (an important cargo destinations fdor TK at the moment) and Brussels are candidates. The destination which TK is going to fly to is also not 100% certain but it will be either New York, Chicago, Houston or Atlanta.

Better term would be "resume".

TK has served JFK with its own cargo flights before. They even for a period leased an Atlas 747 via AMS prior.

p.s. - speaking of cargo A310F TC-JCY was retired last week.

AC has one big leg up on UA. They fully codeshare with TK now on each others YYZ flights, have some 20 odd Canadian codeshare points plus 30 odd ones on the TK network. Also customer service is shared with use of each others lounges etc.

UA on the other hand took the lone wolf approach, barely has any codeshares with TK, no preferred through fare agreements, no joint handling, all result of it preference to stick to its A++ JV.

"Late last week, The Times of India reported Turkish Airlines, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines in the world, wanted to more than quintuple its Indian footprint, requesting an increase in weekly seat allocation from 4,000 to 20,000 seats per week, and gain access to Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Ahmedabad."

Yes I posted in reply 55, that JCY retired. That leaves single owned A310F (plus one they lease from MNG). Plan was always to draw them down in favor of the A330F.

In other news, Pegasus today announced it picked the CFM LEAP-1A engine for its 100 A320NEO family orders.

TK suspended five weekly ESB IKA flights due to low yield from IKA very recently. The economic downturn in Iran is showing its effects.

IR and Mahan Air continue their direct service between IKA and ESB.

It is expected for TK to reinstate these flights in the near future depending on developments in Iran.

That would be so great. It would affect TK's US and UK ops very positively.

What about growth in Pakistan? What are the actual flight rights?

EK/EY/QR have been doing this for a while ... in fact, their roles as the ME3 global airlines ride a lot on Indian traffic. Getting the Indian rights will be a strong boost. A similar situation happenned in Bangladesh ... TK's DAC service went from 4w to 5w to daily within a relatively short period.

Pakistan have a lot of traffic as well. How is the security situation affecting flights, any idea?

I think the 3 leased from Jet will be returned as soon as the owned frames arrive, next year??
By the end of 2014 (in 18 months) 7 x 333s and 3 x 77Ws to join TK,
Another 8 x 333s and 7 x 77Ws join in 2015. (Oh yes, plus another 16 x A321s and 9 x 738s.)

That is a lot of BIG planes for IST. So 3 leased 77Ws will leave by then and maybe some 343s.

Yes wishing it great, but until the Indian authorities authorize the flights, all the wishing in the world does not matter.

For over 2-years now both TK and Turkish government has tried to prod their Indian counterparts.

So the airforce has left IST and this will be used as parking spots for 26 single aisle, 17 twin aisle jets. Also there are plans to add more gates to the international terminal further into the Cargo areas, since TK is building a new Cargo area.
Any idea, how many more gates will be added?
Where is the new Cargo area is going to be build?

I have to say, I was expecting (or hoping, I might say) this. In my mind, the new airport would probably be significantly functional in or around 2020 ... with TK's explosive growth, the existing terminal simply wouldn't do until then. Maybe you guys knew it already!

Looking at a Google Maps satellite view of IST cargo area .... it looks like 6 (six) gates can be added fairly quickly using the existing cargo ramp ... and maybe 4-5 more with some additional groundwork along runway 05/23 (but that would add quite a bit of cost). Instead, developing the ex-military area would be better. Even a whole new terminal (ala FRA T3) wouldn't surprise me

Cargo area has 6 parking spots as T1- T6, they are 3 narrow body and 3 A330 size. Building a terminal extension and gates will be costly but unavoidable I think. I Hope there will be A380 gates and TK livery on these A380

The TAV bid is a joint venture consortium made up of Aeroports de Paris (ADP) and U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs.

Booked my first ever TK flight for Dec. from LAX. This will be my 2nd longst flight ever, just beating out JFK-AUH. Im curious as to why seats are not bookable until the end of september. Its not like TK can do LAX with another type.

I will be curious as to how their Y product compares with EY. I am looking very much forward to a few days in IST on my way back from TBS.

No idea. Since I fly with TK for mostly business, my tix are bought only days in advance. I think I'm flying next Tuesday JFK-IST but still don't have a ticket. But I always check in 24 hours in advance online and get a seat assignment and it always works. So, my suggestion is to go online check in as soon as you can (24 hrs prior) to be able to get the aisle or the window seats. Maybe someone else can recommend getting a seat assignment earlier. I haven't done that before so I can't comment.
It is a long flight, expect a full flight. Bon Voyage.

I know LAX is a bit busier with single daily flight, but if you arrive early at the airport and they have avail. seats you can upgrade to Comfort Class for around 200euros. You can only do this on the day of. 2-3-2 seating and lot more space, just check out the specs at TK's website.

As far as I know ATL, YUL and SFO are the only N.American cities still being mentioned by TK, besides the ones mentioned in your quote. One can only guess that MIA is the logical next city.

You can book a seat by calling reservations a few months out. Normally they are available starting 90-100 days out from you flight.

Also as mentioned if you can try to purchase an upgrade to Comfort Class the day of your flight at the ticket counter. They go first come, first serve. Big bargain and worth it imo.

Turkish Airlines to start Tehran cargo flights this week

The national flag carrier airline of Turkey, Turkish Airlines, will begin its cargo flights to the Iranian capital city of Tehran later this week.

Turkish Airlines announced on Monday that the flights are planned as one per week, and will start as of July 31.

In April, Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz called for the expansion of economic ties with neighboring Islamic Republic despite foreign pressures.

Turkish Airlines Investigated for Tax Fraud in Israel

Turkish Airlines' Israeli office is currently being investigated for alleged tax evasion amounting to over 1.5 million shekels ($418,000), the Justice Ministry said Monday, according to the Israel Hayom daily.

The newspaper quoted a statement published by the Ministry which said that the Tel Aviv District Prosecution's Taxes and Economics Department is considering pressing criminal charges against the company as well as the head of its local office, Fatih Dogan, for failing to meet Israel's Tax Authority guidelines for foreign companies operating in Israel.
