Qantas And Seoul?

Thu Jul 18, 2013 1:44 pm

Does anyone know in which years QF served Seoul, and which aircraft types were used?

Hi,

Seoul was served during the 1990s and was cut during Asian economic meltdown.

Flights were operated from both SYD and BNE using B743, B742, B74L, and B763s.

QF have signalled a return to Seoul once its Intl operations become viable again. 2016 has been mentioned.

Hope this helps.

There has also been seasonal 763 flights to Seoul during 'peak' travel times on at least two occasions since I have been with the company. They occurred December to February if I remember correctly.

Here is a 2005 press release http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airl...a-releases/jul-2005/3294/global/en

It is unfortunate that Australia-Korea market is very seasonal, and VFR oriented. While I would love to see QF back at ICN, I don't think it is particularly likely - or at least not high up on their list of priorities. Even KE, who can provide onward feed to China, Japan, the broader East Asia region, and Europe, reduce frequencies and capacity outside of the Southern Summer holidays.

I agree. The commercial links just aren't there to make a QF service work.

It could be an interesting opportunity for JQ to look at over the summer months though. There is plenty of unused capacity to Japan at the moment that could be put to far better use elsewhere.

Until at least the mid 90s. This is when Kimpo Airport was the main international airport for South Korea before ICN opened.
The QF routing was SYD/GMP/BNE/SYD. Evening departure from Seoul, arrival in BNE around 9 a.m., dep BNE around 10 am for SYD. I remember they served champagne with breakfast before arrival in BNE in Economy! Domestic pax could also fly BNE/SYD on this flight.

Just a comment. Domestic pax can fly on all international flights that make two or more stops in Australia, that are operated by Australian airlines. They fly to/from international terminals and use what is know as the "D" sticker system to identify them as domestic pax.

Yes, that:s right. But these days I don't think there are as many (very few) domestic flights operated through BNE international terminal.

Though this flight has been 'temporarily' suspended due to the runway works.
