LAN A340 At SIN...
Flew into Singapore last week and there was a LAN Chile A340 at the cargo apron. Could not get close enough to get the reg. Anyone know why this is here? Was not aware of flights from Santiago to Singapore..

No SCL-SIN flights. The aircraft was returned to lessor. IIRC I saw something about that on Skyliner News..

On 01JUL, CC-CQE was phased out of LAN's fleet and ferried to SIN via AKL for heavy maintenance.

I'm shocked AR don't lease these birds and phase out their aged 18th century interior A342 fleet. How many remain active in the AR fleet?

I believe SK is waiting for an ex LAN A340. Currently they have leased a Omni 767 to do the Washington flight. Should arrive October/November.

That is correct. LAN phased out the only A-340-313X that was not originally ordered by LAN (CC-CQG) last December. The A-340-313X will carry the registration LN-RKP when it enters service with SAS.

Does anybody know if SAS will keep LAN's J class seat? It's a significant improvement on the one SAS uses!

Why is it so surprising to see a LAN A340 in Singapore ? WE know they are replacing their old long haul fleet with 787's. LAN's A340 fleet is about 15 years old, so it makes sense for those leases to expire now. SIN sees lots of planes going from one operator to another.

If SAS does, they wouldn't be the first carrier to keep LAN's J class seats.

That is incorrect. LAN's oldest A340 was delivered on 27/09/2000. Also, LAN purchased four A340s outright. The only A340 that was leased was CC-CQG.

When did that start?? OY-KBM is here practically every day; it is on its way here right now per flightradar24...

Where are they flown? SYD? I haven't flown a 342 yet; far as I know, AR and RJ are the only ones still flying them.

342 in AR mostly fly the EZE-SYD nonstop, and occasionally to all other points flown by 340s,
AR is retiring the oldest 340-300 (non x LV-BIT and LV -BMT)) in the fleet in favor of the 330-200, the first of four should be arriving before the end of the month, with two other 340-300x ex IB joining the fleet before year's end.

No difference compared to the original four A340s LAN ordered; just a bit older. CC-CQG entered service with AC during 1997. LAN leased the a/c during 2007 in order to operate both the SCL-MAD-FRA and SCL-AKL-SYD routes daily year-round. Also during that period LAN was in the process of introducing new interiors on its fleet of wide-body a/c and CC-CQG's interior was refitted.

The OMNI usually does two of four weekly SK901/2 rotations on the evening CPH-EWR flight, in addition to other occasional substitutes when need. AFAIK it did a very delayed CPH-ORD run yesterday

I assume the 77W or 787 is going to replace the A340.
The twin engine planes can be easily replaced on the trans-atlantic sectors but what about the south pacific sectors from South America to Australia/NZ? I understand flying SCL-AKL/SYD under ETOPS requires quite a northernly diversion. How is LAN going to fly the route?

Yes, the 77W and/or 787 will eventually replace the A340 on the SCL-AKL-SYD route, (LATAM has four 77Ws on order). The 767 is currently deployed on the SCL-MAD-FRA route and will switch over to the 787 on October 1st.

Just a bit off topic but does anyone have the Omni 767 interior photo?
I believe it's very lousy. Just can't believe SK would wet-leased the aircraft to op on such a high-competitive transatlantic market.
And I'm confident SK will keep LAN's interior on this former CC-CQG.
It's impossible for them to find the same exact Koito (Economy) and Contour (Business) seats since they are ages.
