Oh boy, hope everything turns out well. I sincerely hope that nobody was inside the house, even though they said a stretcher was brought in.

My first thought is 100% with the people who lost their homes and property, but hopefully not their lives. It doesn't look very good for the people on the plane though, to be honest. [Edit: WNBC New York is reporting there were two young children in the home at the time of the crash, with a woman outside screaming about her kids. Their status is uncertain at this time.] Praying all are safe.
Although far less of a concern right now, this will give the local NIMBYs even more artillery against any sort of expansion against HVN airport and could even renew arguments to close the airport entirely. Which I think is too bad.
Little known fact: in 1971, Connecticut's worst air disaster occurred on approach to HVN (from the other end of the main runway to today's crash). The Alleghany Convair 580 with 30 passengers and 3 crew crashed killing 28 of those aboard.

I used to work at the last place that sold this airplane (according to flight aware it is N13622) used to belong to Walmart a while ago.

I pulled up the LiveATC archives and Tower asked if had visual contact with the airport. He said that he did. But only a couple seconds later you hear Tower say "622!!" and then there is nothing. It sounds like weather might have rolled in and he was too low. What a terrible tragedy. I can't imagine what that poor mother is feeling right now and I hope her children are okay.

Tragic news.
I had my first few flying lessons out in HVN. That airport has had its share of tragedies over the last year. Last September, my flight instructor crashed and got killed flying out of HVN towards the Cape. And to make the whole situation worse, we flew together just a day before. Funny how life abruptly ends without a warning.
Hope the kids are found safe. Very sad.

A circling approach with ceiling just 100ft higher than the approach minimums... Perfectly legal, but not very wise...

very true elinyc.. for someone new/unfamiliar to the airport the small ridge to the west of the 20 final approach gives you the perception you need to turn tight to avoid it when you are trying to keep in close when you are doing a minimums circling approach. probably an accelerated stall situation.....

Reports say that the pilot was Bill Henningsgaard, a former top executive at Microsoft. His son was with him and also died.

My thoughts are with all those injured and lost and their families/friends.
This plane was at my local airport on the 7th; it was a gorgeous airplane that turned a lot of heads. The loss of the plane pales in comparison to the loss of life, but it is still sad to lose a beauty like that.

Lowest Circle to Land minimums are 720 - 1....all approaches seem to come from the south for RWY 2 which agrees what the path on FlightAware indicates.

I commuted out of HVN in the late 70's and early 80's--I had totally forgotten about that horrible Allegheny 580 accident. And yet another tragedy. The airport is located in a densely populated area of East Haven and I can see how something like this could occur. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the deceased during this terrible time.

My heart goes out to the innocent people on the ground who were the victims. Why is there so much press coverage on the clown in the airplane? He was taking a risk - he'd already crashed a plane once before. He knew the chances he was taking. I reserve my sympathy for the innocent family who were supposedly safe in their own home.
I can't say I completely disagree.

I am a little confused about the scenario here. The crash site is about 1 mile north of the runway 20 threshold, which would seem to indicate that the plane was flying an approach to 20, not 02. The impact site is at 64 Charter Oak Avenue.
FlightAware is showing what appears to be an approach to runway 2, however, and a very roundabout flight path.
The only other scenario I can imagine is that after a missed approach to runway 2 there was a mechanical failure or loss of situational awareness after overflying the field.

One thing to remember is that the pilot had his 17 year old son with him on the plane.
