What Routes Does WN Fly The -800?

Tue Aug 13, 2013 2:21 am

In about two weeks I'll be traveling on WN SAN-DEN-MSP-PHX-SAN and would like to know if I will have an opportunity to fly on their -800. I'd love to experience their evolve product as well.

Out of SAN I'd say you might have a shot, but when you booked the flight it should've told you which type you'll be on.

As for other -800 routes:

PVD-BWI/MDW/FLL (seasonally)
SJU-All destinations from SJU.
BWI-MDW/MCO/MHT

Thats about all I can remember off hand.

I know they do, but I don't know which flights you're on so I cannot be of that much assistance, except for that today they are flying the -800s on the 11:40am and 7:30pm departures from SAN to DEN. PHX-SAN, though, I don't see any -800s.

Hope this helps and I hope you get the -800!  Smile  Smile Big grin

The evolve product is pretty nice. I personally have not experienced it yet but my cousin has a few times and she said it is better than they had before. She also said that the slight decrease in seat-cushion size is negligible.

The Evolve -300, -700 ( 143 Seats ) isn't bad, and to be honest I've yet to really feel any of a difference in the two products. I like the headrests in the new seats too.

The Evolve -800 ( 175 Seats ) has the same seat pitch as the old "Spirit" interior from what I understand..

As of now, all of the -700s and a decent handful ( 10+ ) of the -300s have the "Evolve" interior.

I know it was on MKE-LAS for a bit, but it appears not anymore. There are 3 flights a day. Maybe seasonal.

Do all of the 700s now have Wifi? Does that automatically get installed with the Evolve interior?

I just few a 700 Evolve and a 300 old interior back to back today and didn't notice much of a difference. I flew MKE-SEA on Friday in an Evolve seat for 4 hours and didn't have a problem.

Some just like to complain. I know that if someone really does need the knee room, there is less seat pitch.

All of the aircraft in the fleet have Wifi, unless it in inop. Free TV is available through the end of the year as well which included video on demand and 8 or 9 channels. RedZone (when available) and movies are extra.

Another seasonal route for the -800 is DEN-PHX, and even got a bump on a return flight home this past March.

I've had an inordinate number of -300 flights lately, and I'd guess that's it's more -300s than that that have Evolve; I'd guess a quarter or a third of the fleet.

Most WN frequent fliers I talk to have grown to like the Evolve product after really disliking it when it first started going in. I now feel like I sink in to old seats, where at the beginning I found the Evolve seats far too hard.

All of the -700s have WIFI and the Evolve interior. However the WIFI installation began in 2010 on A/C N910, this continued up until recently when some aircraft had the Wifi with the "Spirit" interior. The -300s from what I understand can't get retrofitted with Wifi, and I am sure one of our MX guys can better explain why.

Here is the breakdown of our fleet

Boeing 737-300

TOTAL IN FLEET - 123

WIFI- NO

WINGLETS - 101/ 123

EVOLVE ( 10+/ 123 )

** -300s with winglets will be the candidates for the EVOLVE interior. **

===================

Boeing 737-500

TOTAL IN FLEET - 17

WIFI - NO

WINGLETS - NO

** Will be gone by 09/2014**

===================

Boeing 737-700

TOTAL IN FLEET - 389

WIFI - YES

WINGLETS - YES

EVOLVE- YES ( 389/389 )

===================

Boeing 737-800

TOTAL IN FLEET - 43

WIFI -YES

WINGLETS - YES

** Next -800 delivery is set for 09/ 2013 A/C N8615 **

I saw one while I was getting ready to come back to MKE from OMA. But then again, there was a diverted WN flight in OMA that day, so that could have been it.

I've seen them coming in to STL, though the -700 and the -500 far outnumber the -800.

They were flying one OMA-PHX last winter and spring. Looks like from OMA, depending on the date, they appear to be going to MDW, LAS AND PHX but only one per day, if that. Currently OMA-MDW is getting a single -800.

I have a feeling 14 months from now Dallas Love Field will be a very different place. With the expiration of the Wright Amendment on October 16 of next year, WN will have the ability to fly nonstop to MDW, LAX, BOS, SFO and SEA with no restrictions. Those routes are ripe for the -800.

Anyone care to speculate the Wright-free routes?

Cheers!

This changed with the schedule change that occured 8-11-13. There is not only 1 -800 that flys to SJU and thats the midday BWI flight. All others are now -700

SAN-DEN has 1 -800. Flight 3031 that departs SAN at 1130
DEN-MSP has 1 -800. Flight 4571 that departs DEN at 1025

There are currently no -800's flying MSP-PHX or PHX-SAN

Hope this helps

On which routes should WN fly the -800 ex-DAL? DAL-LBB? DAL-HRL? You have to remember that DAL is predominantly short-haul and high-frequency, not the sort of route on which they usually deploy the -800.

On the seats, personally, I think the older seats and arrangement had more room.

Last summer I flew on a brand new -800 on SEA-MDW. Right now 2x SEA-MDW are operated by -800s.

SEA is heavily summer-seasonal - I would expect the -800s to shift to sunnier routes in the winter.

I'm more of a casual observer than a careful schedule counter, but I'd guess that DAL sees 8-12 -800s in most schedules. They are less prevalent than in places like LAS or MDW but not nonexistent.

Awesome! I didn't know they flew the -800s into MSP at all!

I think that just started. I noticed it when planning a trip for this week.

My first WN -800 flight was MSP-DEN. I took FL MKE-MSP, so it was just a few weeks before WN took that route over, whenever that was.
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

WN sends the 738 to PHX several times a day from all over. I flew one LAX-PHX in June on N8313F. I have to say the 800s are very nice, more comfortable then the 300s and 700s IMHO.
Allons-y!
