EK's One Stop Flights: Fifth Freedom Etc.?

Hi guys,

just wondering what the deal with these flights is.
Do they all have Fifth Freedom rights (I would assume so)?
Do pax can pax get off, do they have to get off?

Yes. Those I recall of the top of my head (I will put the entire outward journey down): DXB-BKK-SYD-CHC, DXB-SYD-AKL, DXB-MEL-AKL, DXB-BNE-AKL, DXB-BKK-HKG, DXB-LUN-HRE, DXB-ACC-ABJ, DXB-LCA-MLA, DXB-CMB-SIN, and forthcoming DXB-MXP-JFK. You may purchase tickets on those legs that didn't originate or end in DXB.

Those are actually a few more than I had in mind, but I would expect no less from you.

I am most likely going to be on the DXB-CMB-SIN route soon. Just wondering if you can get off the plane or if you have to wait onboard.

Usually depends on the airport you go through, some require passengers to get off, but in CMB you will have to stay on board.

They also have DXB-GIG-EZE-GIG-DXB with full 5th freedom rights.

Yes I flew ABJ-ACC-ABJ with EK and the sector was full of local passengers commuting between Ivory Coast and Ghana in both directions.

I flew the Dubai to Bangkok to Sydney Flight and we got off the plane in Bangkok for around 1 hour. It was nice to get off and have a bit of a walk around. I think a lot of the passengers got off in Bangkok (I was in the row of 4 in the middle and not one of them got back on at BKK, I had new pax next to me). There also seemed to be a lot of new passengers getting on at Bangkok and the flight was full again to SYD. I have no idea how many were going all the way to CHC. The same goes for the return.

It was also cheaper to fly this route than one of the non-stop London - Dubai - Syndey flights. It's a long way but the ICE helped

Well that'd be too bad, since I have never been to Sri Lanka. I was hoping to maybe get my passport stamped and to pick up a few postcards.

I flew MEL-KUL-DXB and we were allowed to hop off but didn't have to, and we were made to get off on my DXB-SIN-MEL flight.

It's possible. I was trying to come up with a SQ list and it's nowhere near as long:

FRA - JFK
MUC - MAN
BCN - GRU
DXB - IST
NRT - LAX
HKG - SFO
ICN - SFO

Do they still fly MXP - BCN on the other days that BCN - GRU doesn't fly?

Although the list is shorter, on the other hand it leads me to believe that SIN is much better connected to DXB. Also, who wants to go, say, HKG - BKK - DXB when you can have a non-stop? (thought the same could be said for CX's HKG - BKK - SIN), or DXB - BKK - SYD - CHC?

Actual current flights? I would think so. Fifth freedom rights including those not currently use? No.

On inbound flights to Australia you have to disembark for Quarantine purposes (what do they do exactly, spray lot of pesticides?) whereas on the outbound to Dubai you can chose to remain on the aircraft if you want.

Even if you were allowed of you wouldn't have that much time! Whenever I've gone through SIN with EK there have been announcements that we should be back at the gate 30 minutes later. If you are allowed of, it will only be into the sterile airside departure lounge... although there might be a gift shop for you there!

I flew BNE-AKL-BNE a couple of years ago, the load was 100% in Y both ways, and if I had to guess I would say that the vast majority were BNE O&D heading to AKL. In comparison, the last time I flew DXB-BNE(-AKL) - also 100% in Y - virtually the entire aircraft was continuing to AKL. I guess there is seasonal variation etc which allow them to keep up the loads year round.

I will not be going to SIN but to HKG instead now. And of course via BKK. So I will have to see what that routing will do for me.

That not 100% correct, the cabins are not sprayed on all flights, that is done prior to leaving NZ, SIN, KUL, or DXB but that can be done when passenger are onboard. The aircraft heading to NZ are sprayed on the ground for NZ requirements in Australia.

However all transit passengers not originating in Australia must be re-screened through Australian security however, thus its a security requirement, and a rather stupid one
