Seems like they've stuck with the new livery after all.

I was afraid they would go with the Euro-white look. Darn. Was hoping for a bit more yellow at least. Oh well looking forward to more pics of this beauty. And other 787 photos. This bird is finally growing on me.

This doesnt look "Royal" at all. Its plain awful. Besides JAL the worst looking 787. Probably the worst looking title cluster I have ever seen.

I agree that the new one is bland. They could have used more metallic yellow (kind of corn husk) and the current underbelly yellow with a gentle cheat-line with the royal coat=of-arms on the tails to make it even more 'royal'. The new one looks like a temp lease with initials glued on. UGLY.

I do wish airlines would just stop copying each other. This new livery is really dull. What's with the silly RB? No one calls it RB airlines.

The duller the liveries get the fewer people will look at them. The fewer people look at them the more the brand image deteriorates. We might as well just have one global airline with no livery.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Well I like it. Very "Chic" and has got that high-end simplicity look.

And I've got to say I was never a fan of the previous livery. Ugly font used for the airline name.

If you're marketing yourself as "Royal Brunei", it seems a little naff that the best idea in the room was the initals RB on the fin. RB = "Really Bad"?

I for one actually really like it! I think this is one of those 'less is more' things in my opinion. I would get rid of the black belly though, which from this angle looks completely hideous.

Good point!

It would of looked better with an oversized coat of arms in white spread across the yellow instead.

The 'novelty' of masking and spraying so many pin-stripes around compound curves would have worn off long ago, I am sure. And the Bookman Italics all-caps titles had definitely had their day; no question about that.

But I just don't 'get' anything about the new livery. Looks more like a duty free boutique outlet at BWN - as if the painters wandered into an empty office and picked up the wrong concept sketches ...

My two cents' worth for the initials? Really 'Barrassing.

Funny is the registration...

I guess they are already antecipating a lot of DeLAys with the 787

About the colours, well, another nice scheme bites the dust.

For some reason, I get the feeling this is a bad photoshop job. Look at the perspective of everything else in the shot and then look at the perspective of the "RB" on the tailfin. It looks WAY off in both shots. I don't see why anyone would shop this, but it certainly looks very, very odd.

Any new livery is bound to please some and cause others to voice their disapproval.

This new livery did not sit well with me when I first saw it in a picture .... but when I saw the actual plane - an A319, I actually admire its simplicity and rather clean and pleasing font. The shade of yellow used is very appealing to me too.

Now that I see it on a Dreamliner, I am more than convinced that I like this new livery ... but agree that having RB on the tail is not the sharpest of ideas. While one posted earlier that RB stands for Really Bad, it could also mean Really Beautiful ... but for me, RB has always been associated with Syrian Arab Airlines.

If only Royal Brunei Airlines had just that crest on the tail and increase its size appreciably ... that would be just nice. Simply remove the "RB" from the tail.

It might just be the lighting, but the yellow used on the tail and in the logo slash looks different from the yellow on the flag in front of the titles. If so, that would give it a very discordant look I think. The yellow certainly looks lighter and less rich than the current scheme (which, apart from the titles, I quite like, though it is a nightmare to model).
Nothing seems as good since the VC10.

To me, RB must be looking into cost cuttings...They had beautiful black colour livery, then they had that yellow one and this one is the most bland and poor among all.

+1

The new livery is very bad. THey should concentrate on showing and focusing on their national emblem and signature logo instead of the "RB." The tail is too yellow and is missing something, perhaps it should have white edges--or a splash of red as in their flag.

Seems like a lot of livery designers went to the same awful design-school. Finnair, American, Air New Zealand and now Royal Brunei - there have been many disappointing paint schemes lately.

Finnair: it was Eurowhite already. They just dropped the two tone blue.

American: Gasp! They desperately needed a change. I like it. And it grew on me.

Air New Zealand: They dropped the "Wave" on the fuselage ages ago and the two tone blue anyway.

Royal Brunei though, is a just another airline trying to differentiate themselves. The wrong way, I agree.

This is sadly the way the industry is going. I've digressed to bring thankful for the new American's silver.

The belly looks dark grey like Swissair used to have, in their case it worked complemented by the bright red tail and the large thick font red title, a failure in this case on both fronts.

Yes nicely done white liverys do work well for many an airlines makeover and look more professional, not always though, I think this livery could have been much better even in its current style.

Just noticed Arabic titles added, is Arabic their native language? it reads Raj Brunei.

I am afraid its often enough not what the designers wanted. Its either what a clueless and gutless board of directors forced the tired agency to to do after three rounds presenting a dozen of better designs, or the result of a brief starting with "we want its cheap, simple, and did we say cheap?" I am a designer and know how these processes sometimes go, either you´d already like to vomit on the brief, or you are disillusioned and disgusted from the management after you´ve presented your first ideas.

It was so cool to read about where each tail came from. I thought the Union Jack was the most boring of all of them at the time, but nowadays I like how it looks.

I'm not Abigail fan of the new scheme even though it does have the modern feel to it.

Question is which schemes did RB have to choose from considering there would've been other proposals from the designers.

that's exactly what I feel. The old livery in my opinion, was alot cooler, thanks to it feeling authentic, but I feel that this brings a modern feel, and a more appealing taste. The new yellow color scheme is brighter, and clearer, giving it a more modern feel, while the other ones looks like it has spent to much time sitting in the desert sand. It also looks like a thing of the past (which IMO, is not a bad thing). The old AA livery was a classic, but it seemed like it was worn, just like this past one, it wasn't inviting.

I don't know why you think that, and I can't tell why others think that. I personally LOVE special liveries, and the BA Tails were very tasteful and meaningful in my opinion. They reflected the cultures which BA and therefore the former British Empire touched. I still can't figure out the outright hatred many people had for them. Especially reading FlyerTalk back when... It seemed like people had pure hatred for them. To me, a lot of British culture is staid and boring, combine that with nationalism, and maybe that is why so many people hated them...not that I know. It's irrelevant now, and each to his own.

This BI livery is fugly. Beyond...

The 787s are direct replacements for the 4 777s that are going back to their lessors.
So will go on the following routes:
> BWN-DXB-LHR
> BWN-JED
> BWN-MEL

Word is that crew training etc... will occur on the BWN-HKG and BWN-PVG routes.

Now someone is likely to say that they've ordered 5 787s vs 4 777s so that leaves one for expansion. the answer is yes BUT Royal Brunei has delayed delivery of the 5th frame into the future and rumour is they may even cancel it. so that expansion one isn't for tomorrow morning.

I did like the idea a lot, but the quality of the designs varied. There were some awful ones, granted, but there were also a number of niceties. Chelsea Rose was fantastic, Waves and Cranes was beautiful.
BA´s big mistake back then was that they started with some of the least digestible designs, in odd colours not fitting the rest of the design, and even more important they ignored the British designs completely at the beginning.
