Any Taker To Fill The BE Gap On BHD - LGW

Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:11 am

With Flybe dropping all their Gatwick flights next year, it leaves a huge gap on some routes, namely their successful LGW - BHD route. EI gave them a run for their money, but they still maintained pretty good loads. Does anyone know if EI will increase frequency, or will Easyjet up the frequency from BFS - LGW.

Aer Lingus had planned to increase frequency to 4 daily this summer but thought better of it however with BE leaving I think they'll probably revisit the idea.

Has there been any news on LGW-NQY being taken over by another carrier when BE pulls out?

EasyJet to the rescue? Certainly seem to be considering it.

I wonder if they'll be getting a wee taxpayer bonus?

I think EI will have it pretty much to themselves. BE are giving away the BHD-LGW seats and downgrading to props in the final days of the route . Shame to see the E Jet off the BHD-LGW. Ive booked myself one last trip on it

Currently, I believe EZY have only confirmed JER as an ex-BE route for next summer, but I'm sure the bean counters at EZY are doing the sums on the feasilibity on other routes BE served.

On-topic but meandering slightly... has BE announced an alternative plan for London? Will they move to STN, Luton? Limited services from LCY? Or just leave London completely?

BE will consolidate their hubs in SOU, EXT, BHX and MAN for the time being before deciding their next move.

I think NQY and NCL will be the only unserved routes... unless someone else announces them in the next few weeks.

BFS/BHD has U2/EI, INV has U2, ABZ has U2, JER will have U2 and BA, GCI has Aurigny, IOM has U2.
Next flights: LGW-LBA-LGW, LHR-SIN-SYD, SYD-BKK-LHR, LGW-GRO, GRO-CIA, CIA-MAD, MAD-LGW

This would be a massive shame for NQY and personally I'm rather sad about it.

NQY is my second most frequented airport (37 flights), after LGW (61) and ahead of ADL (21) =( NQY-LON with BA, FR and SZ was my only way to get home at the weekends, before I took my car down to uni.

The loss of BE flying to LGW could be the final blow for Newquay Cornwall Airport I fear.

Huge hints in local press of an announcement shortly with U2 for LGW-NQY.

Current suggestion is daily during winter and possibly twice daily for summer.

Such a shame things aren't what they were, SZ, BA
& FR all on LON-NQY.

It will be a shame to see BE leave the route as currently they do offer feed via codeshare with BA, wouldn't it be nice to also see BA return to NQY from one of the three London airports they serve in some fashion or another.

Certainly NQY could do with BA and Cornwall could do with the onward connection possibilities they would bring.

Their 737s and A319s are just too large for the route (U2 could probably fill an A319 as they have much lower costs so can offer much lower fares for the price sensitive leisure passenger). If BA couldn't make MAN work I doubt they'll be interested in NQY. I seem to remember they tried it once daily on a 737-500 for a time but it didn't last long.
