Any Scheduled 747 Into EWR?

Thu Sep 12, 2013 1:56 am

I was there for a good portion of the day this past Saturday and I didn't see any. So does EWR still see any 747s?

LY used to send them into EWR a few days a week as of last January when I was at EWR for a two-day spotting adventure. I don't think they do anymore so I'd say just the cargo flights that Kalitta still runs.

Every time I've been there in the last several years, Kalitta's 747s have been the only ones I've seen.

VS sends a B744 in daily from LHR. VS001/002, arriving around 19:00 and leaving at 21:25.

It's been a B747 (with the exception of periodic low season capacity reductions) since the first flight in 1984.
So long 701, it was nice knowing you.

EWR has never really been a 747 airport. Maybe a handful per day at most (and that was years ago). Go over to JFK if you want to see big planes.

In early 1985 there were at least 7 daily 747s from EWR, 5 People Express (2 LAX, 2 OAK, 1 LGW) and 2 UA (ORD). A couple of the People Express flights to LAX/OAK weren't quite daily (5 or 6 per week).

Back in the late 70's early 80's my family used to take UA 747s from EWR to SFO. Later they changed them out with DC-10s. I think I was on one that still had the bar upstairs.

Flew right over me while I was on the way back from the Newark Airliners Show on Saturday.

There are at least several A340s to visit EWR daily as well. I also saw an A380 last spring in the same approach pattern, couldn't tell what airline it was, and don't know where it would park and why it was so unique that day.

Yep, like I said, a handful at most.

That was UA flight 35. The only 747 flight out of EWR for many years. I remember watching it fly over our house in northern NJ on weekend mornings when I wasn't at school. Was always exciting to see it.

I've been told that AA used the 747 on EWR-LAX for a very short time.

And in late-1985/1986 you can add a daily PEOPLExpress BRU 747 to that list.
