PeoplExpress To Begin Service 2Q 2014

Tue Sep 17, 2013 5:20 pm

I hope this works out. Will be nice having another airline flying. Here is the news as posted 2 hours ago on their Facebook page:

Over the past few months, we’ve been hearing a lot of questions about when we’re taking off and where we’re headed. We’ve stayed quiet because we want to be able to deliver on any promises we make. Today, we are excited to announce that we expect PEOPLExpress planes to begin flying during the second quarter of 2014.

We are still mapping out the most efficient and effective routes, but we look forward to revealing the cities to which we will be flying. You’ll be the first to know as soon as these destinations are determined.

That's like 9 months away. Seems like a long time since they have an operating subsidiary now, right?

You should edit the title to your post. I'm assuming you meant to say 'begin' service???

I second that thought!

Here is hoping for the best. Although this is another 9 months away, another carrier among the HUGE legacies would be nice. Still holding my breath on Baltia and CalPacific.

While I would agree with you, they still would have to build up personnel and IT and everything else...Not to mention 2nd quarter is a pretty good time to start up going into the summer travel season. I'm sure they want to move faster but taking it easy is not a bad idea to have all of their ducks in a row...Rather be ready ahead of time than have to delay the start of service right?

The fact that they keep pushing their start date doesn't instill confidence in this ever happening. I guess they need to keep using Xtra Airways as a piggy bank for a bit longer.....

With their recent acquisition I would consider starting flights under the PE name as a part 380 operator, test routes and to the general public get the branding/image out there...then flip the 121 switch when ready. I would think it could be transparent to the public. One downside is you don't get flights in the GDS without a 2 digit IATA code.

I'm better with the federal government fiscal year; with that said I believe the corporate 2nd quarter begins on April 1 (which is by the way April fools day) By my count it could be as few as six months or as long as the nine months you mentioned.

I hope someone finally paid off the AMEX card and unemployment insurance taxes

Q2 makes sense on the surface for reasons mentioned above. If it were me (armchair speaking here, I know), getting her up and running a month or so before the high season and sort out customer service, IT and operations snags. Last thing a start up needs is hysterical media hyperbole about 'a nightmare journey', 'ruined honeymoons/business trips' and 'stranded on the "tarmac" for hours without food, water or toilets'.

+1 That's the first thing I thought when I read it on my facebook page. If they do start ops 2Q14, it will be over two years since they announced they were going to start flying.

I don't understand how they can announce a start-up date without indicating where they will be flying.

Have they been issued an airline certificate?

If they take to the air, will the airline will be hubbed at Newport News or offer point-to-point service e.g. like Alliagent?

I wish them success and would love to see the carrier back in the skies; however, it seems they're not sure where they're headed.

Yes. They bought Xtra who has been certified for years.

From their Face Book page posted today..."Did you know PEOPLExpress is off the ground, operating our charter service as XTRA Airways?"
