2013-14 NHL Charters

Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:58 am

With the start of the regular season two weeks away (and with the preseason already underway), it's just about time for a new thread.

First change I've noticed is that the Sabres appear to have switched carriers from LL to DL: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL8953

If you know any other teams, post them!

I'd expect the Canucks to charter an older (unmarked) 737 like they did last year.

Sharks have their own 727 but is blocked on flightaware.
The red zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone...(Ai

I don't know if DL has the VIP A319s set up yet. The kings flew out of PHX on a MD90 the other night but this good news for the charter team at DL, charter season is upon us.

Got a few DL flight numbers...
8953 - Sabres
XXX - Rangers
8952 - Kings
8949 - Flyers
8951 - Capitals
XXX - Wild
8946 - Ducks
XXX - Maple Leafs
8948 - Predators

Maybe DL is giving them a better deal? Plus Jetz ticked off a lot of teams last year when they converted most of the VIP aircraft back to standard seating. The Cauncks quit AC last year and flew a Flair Air charter. AC flew about 12 teams last year including 6 US teams, looks like they may lose a few teams this year.

NW had a great charter program and DL was smart in keeping the program intact. AC is absolutely losing business because of the configuration issue last year.

Charters are a big money maker. And it seems every year more and more sports teams are chartering DL.

Doesn't DL fly a number of MLB teams? Perhaps they were pretty busy with flying some MLB teams around, as Sunday is a busy travel day for many MLB teams? In addition, the game against the Coyotes was a split squad game (Half of each team was in L.A. playing and the other half was in Glendale playing). The flight to PHX was on a 752, the return was on an MD-90 and the MD-90 immediately flew back to PHX. The partial Coyotes squad played in L.A. on Sunday night and the full team played in Anaheim the next night. There's no additional PHX-LAX charter flight after the one on Sunday night, nor is there one between PHX and SNA, so perhaps the partial Kings and Coyotes squads that played in Glendale shared the DL MD-90?

Yes they do but MLB teams I have seen MLB teams charter on 738s,752s, and an A320. NHL usually gets use of the VIP A319

I know the Sabres have used an A319 thus far (except for when their prospects went to TVC for the Red Wings' tournament). Whether or not it's in VIP configuration though...

This was the 319 VIP fleet as of a couple years ago,
normally they would convert all but two back to standard
seating after the NBA ended, not sure what they do now.

N328NB - converted back
N330NB - " "
N331NB - " "
N351NB - " "
N352NB - " "
N354NB - Stayed VIP
N362NB - Stayed VIP

The Sharks flew in here on N737KA whoever operates that.

The Oilers are using AC Jetz.

Havent heard who the Canucks are using this season yet, but I saw the Flair 734 they used last season parked at YLW last week.

The coyotes are leasing a 757 this year but its only temporary. It will be subbed with a 737 later on in the year. Or at least that's the information I got from the front desk at Cutter Aviation at PHX the other day!

The Flyers used the DL A319 to fly to YXU for their pre-season game against the Maple Leafs and I thought that that was set up in a VIP configuration two years ago.

AC JETZ I believe is done, as AIR CANADA is focusing on ROUGE the new discount carrier for AC, and aircraft are needed.

yyzacguy is correct. The decision was made to wind down the Jetz program once commitments have been met, and are not going to be renewed.

The 320s were converted back to standard AC seating last year.

Jetz only has 4 aircraft now, (319s with 58 seats).

Can they carry all the teams with 4 aircraft?

I would guess not ... for the same reasons. It appears that the revenue return for one airframe is less than if it is in normal service. The Jetz program made sense when there was a surplus of equipment and employees, not so much today.

That is a good looking plane. I would like to so them put the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings logos on it, like the DC-9.

The Detroit Pistons also have an MD-80, "Round Ball One".

Their old 727 [N698SS] is actually at KDAL in the former parking space of the TX Rangers/Stars 757 [N757SS]. So the question is, have the Coyotes moved away from the 727 for good or is it getting heavy MX or cabin retrofit done?
