An electrician doing work at JFK's Terminal 1 found a MAC-11 machine pistol in a maintenance closet. It sounds scary, and naturally enough some of the media reports are playing up the scare factor, but in reality there wasn't much risk. The gun was found stashed above the ceiling in a location outside the security zone, that is always locked and off-limits to all but a few workers, the gun was unloaded with no ammunition found, and as far as can be determined the gun probably had been there since the 1990's.
