I don't know that those times are necessarily better. Since basically no one is ending their journey in CLT, passengers are still loosing a whole day at their US destination after you add in connection time. It needs to arrive CLT around 6AM or it is still basically worthless...

Well, it does mean that US got a long-term parking position for the aircraft. Getting an earlier departure slot will be the easier part, since the opening of GRU's new terminal will increase the capacity of the airport. The restrictions there were in place because of the terminal, not the runways.

A day light flight from Brazil is a day killer, but sometimes desirable. It's a good way to get a good night of sleep before work the next day; same as a 9am flight to London from the USA. AND, if it is in a good business class seat with food and IFE, it can be a way to take a break from a crazy work/travel schedule.
I haven't flown US in business in many years. And frankly, it wasn't that bad! I would imagine US is better these days??? It's not an airline where the word "premium" comes to mind. How is this service?

Well, it depends during the winter months (Northern Hemisphere) US Airways puts an Airbus A330-200 on CLT-GRU so you would get to wonderful Envoy Suite: with the lie-flat seat, great IFE and generally a great aircraft! However, during the other months US puts a Boeing 767-200 on that route which, you get the angled lie-flat seat and a portable media player so not the best plane to fly on.
Catering in Envoy is great most of the time, the food is very good especially the steak if it is cooked right but very rarely the steak gets overcooked so it depends.
Staff on US is hit and miss, sometimes you get really friendly crew who are casual, their uniforms are perfect and are always in view: coming through the cabin every half an hour. I have 2 friends who are US cabin crew and they are really nice. But occasionally, they can be a bit rude and they look scruffy, their uniforms don't look the best either and they hide away behind the galley curtain.

I think you're confusing GRU and GIG. It's GIG that gets the 332.

The slot time for the GRU arrival is much better, but I don't know if the GRU departure times are any better. You still almost waste half of a day traveling. How are the flights doing now with the GRU daylight?
I wish US was able to tag on EZE or perhaps CNF during that time.
Their A330 product is wonderful, has such a lovely seat.
Their 767 product isn't necessarily bad, its a little similar to AA's current J seat on the 767.
Catering wise, US is pretty good in J. Last I heard they served little caipirinhas as PDBs from GIG. IFE wise, the A330 has a better product.
I thought US would have placed the A332 on CLT-GRU by now. Wasn't that the plan in the DOT application?

Oppss! I think you're right, I haven't been able to find a 332 on the CLT-GRU on the US Airways website.

Great news for US, happy to see them being able to be a little more competitive in South America. Of course with the old 767, they are gonna have to be price competitive.

I would not call them better but different. You still are going to be travelling for an entire day plus more if you don't end in CLT and you still arrive in the middle of the night in GRU as well.

why wouldn't US do something like GRU 2130 CLT 640? Seems
much better for sleeping as well as for connections in CLT.

Because that's prime time at GRU, when the airport is bursting at the seams.

Regardless of CNF or EZE or heck CPT (!) tag-on, getting a GRU take-off slot around 1030h-1100h might be tricky.
Northbound, there aren't major issues with a 0100-0130h landing.
Add to that, that there might not be frequencies available for U.S. airlines to Argentina.
GRU-CLT northbound 0230h departure seems quite awful, but as the last GRU-U.S. is sure to catch any passenger who missed the last U.S./Canada bound flights. IMHO, a 2030h GRU departure may seem more logical but right now US has to wait until if any slot is freed on that time-frame or earlier than 0230h.
17hours between arrival and departure mean the same US crew will fly back the aircraft they flew-in?
I'm not on CM's payroll.

These slots still aren't fantastic, but they are better. Their patience is paying off, and at some point I'm sure they will be able to pick up a more desirable slot.

I went on line. It does look like a very nice suite. The blue is a bit bright, however at least it's not typical generic airline blue. I don't know if I will ever sit in one as I'm a slave to Star Alliance.
