Potential places for EK 380

1. Perth
2. Manila
3. Jakarta
4. Mumbai
5. Delhi
6. Bangalore
7. Hyderabad
8. Chennai
9. Nairobi
10. Istanbul
11. Milan
12. Birmingham
13. Glasgow
14. Dublin
15. San Francisco
16. Los Angeles

PS - I know A380 is still not permitted in India but just thinking about potential places..

Anyone think of any other places? or any of the places I have mentioned not worth?

Cheers.

Wow, 1.5 hrs to turn an A380...that is quite impressive. I assume that is done at most other destinations with this equipment.

Regarding MXP, I think it will mostly depend on the success of the new MXP-JFK flight. I had the chance of taking it a few days after its inauguration: the MXP to JFK leg was barely 50% full, whilst the return flight was 99% full (at least in coach: no idea about business and first). Only a handful of passengers from JFK however continued to DXB.
Now, if this flight proved to be successful (I think EK's product and service are objectively superior to those of AZ and US airlines flying this route) it could be that some time in the future EK will switch to the A380 on the DXB-MXP-JKF-MXP-DXB route.

I know Johannesburg is served well by daily 3x B77W, but will JNB ever see the EK A380 anytime soon?

I'm thinking maybe next year during the service reduction one of the two remaining B77W service could be upgraded to A380.

Really? Have you seen the pitiful old airbridge that connects to the twice daily 777 at GLA. It's like a cattle run. I'd expect to see EK at EDI before that happens. And hell will freeze over before EDI goes on the list.

IIRC They did serve it with the A380 for a while but then went back to the 777. I missed it be about 3 weeks 2 years ago. Now AF, LH and BA are running the A380 to JNB and EK have more A380s this might happen?

Tim Clark has himself mentioned GLA and the A380 so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

I stand corrected. "Next on the radar". I travelled to MAN for a ride on the A380 earlier this year, soon I can go to my local station

Although my point on that bridge stands. 364 people on a full 773ER is bad enough, 517 on a A380 will be a bottle neck. Will they install new bridges at GLA to accommodate the whale?

If you want a 1.5h turnaround, yes. If not, no problem at ARN.

Remember that Corsair regulary use their 744 with 582 seats (+ a truckload of infants) on ARN - HKT.

Possibly they lack a catering truck capable of loading the upper deck, but that cannot be a dealbreaker.

The turn time is less an indication of how capable the airport is, and more to do with the aircraft utilization. It doesn't take 7-8 hours to turn a 380 at JFK, it just happens to be the amount of time it rests prior to beginning its return trip (usually determined by desired arrival time back in Dubai).
The nice thing about a mistake is the pleasure it gives others.

I fully expect it to be the next A380 destination.

When will they return the A380 on the NRT route? Could they also fly the A380 into HND once the rwy is extended?

Seems like KIX could support an A380 as well since there is no more NGO flight.

Perth airport has EK420/1 down as A380 from March 1st (but could well be tentative). However, I see this as just about confirmed. EK get PER to build an A380 gate (and have been asking for a while), and the EK lounge is being expanded for the purpose.

Even if demand does fall (which I don't expect), I wouldn't be surprised to see the A380 anyway on 420/1 and the 422/3 rotation being cut. EK420/1 sees higher prices and more passengers want to fly on that flight seeing as it connects to more flights in the morning bank.

A380 turn around is pretty challenging job, 1.5 hour turn around would be absolutely hell of a challenge. Can see dispatcher cracking under pressure on full flight and delays.

I did catch that documentary on Nat Geo about Dubai Airport and it was really impressive. They did show how do they turn around A380 in 2 hours I guess.

Talking about GLA and A380, I am more than confident this is make EK good money...GLA by all means have potential and building air-bridge shouldn't be of big issue. EDI is no need as people from Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh have got fantastic access to GLA so I don't see any other Scottish destination getting EK let alone A380.

On my recent HKG-BKK-DXB flight, around 90% of the pax were subbed in BKK. We were not allowed off the plane, but of of course had to unbuckle. Ground time was around 80 minutes including a full crew sub. It can be done and is done daily by EK.

Think it would probably be EK39/40 that would get upgraded although I think it will have to wait until Emirates have delivery of their 2 class A380 product as there is no intention to upgrade BHX to 3 class any time soon (much to my dismay - and sorry I'm not giving manchester or london my money to travel first class when I live 10 minutes from BHX)

Agree. Can't see EK at Edinburgh. I'm expecting EY or QR to add EDI sometime in the next year or so though.
