New VX Safety Video!

Tue Oct 29, 2013 4:13 pm

It seems to be that Virgin America has updated their safety video! It seems to have a little twist, by making a song out of it, and they rhymed pretty well. Is this a way to catch passengers' attention to listen to the safety video? Knowing that VX often attracts to youngsters in CA, do you think this is a good approach?

Not bad! Seems longer than any other safety video I've seen.. It just reminds me of flying on Soul Plane..

I think this video goes great with the image they are trying to create, it makes me want to try them ever more when I'm on the west coast. So job well done VX!

They better taxi very slow to the runway to get through all of that. But then again, at SFO, JFK and PHL, that shouldn't be a problem...

Loved it. Way better than the boring one we have at UA, and it definitely fits the VX brand.

The video is so California.

I like it, but I think it may be a little too long.

I have been very critical of the NZ special safety videos, but really love this one. If you going to do something different, then do it well. IMHO VX have done precisely that, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but for their brand and market I think that it is a job well done.

Exactly my thought. And they need to perform the cabin check after the safety video I assume.

I was on Vueling AGP-BIO, we reached the runway and the crew were still at the oxygen mask part. The captain had to wait for the demo to finish, and the cabin check in order to take off. I like how SAS do it (when it's not on video). The safety demo takes around 30-40 secs and they walk back to their seats. Easy.

That Delta video is so boring!    It is no different to any other airline video. I was falling asleep watching it.

The Virgin video was only 6 seconds longer than the Delta one....

Keep up the good work VX, glad someone is willing to be different.

Funny how fickle folks can be... One day DL is doing "original" stuff, next day it's "boring". And BTW, I'm NOT a DL fanboy!

the new DL video was defiantly a step down in my opinion. the new VX video has gotten more views in less than a week than the 2008 video with "Deltalina" has gotten in 5 years. So happy for Virgin.

They played and talked about it during a radio show here in Chicago.

This was a marketing masterpiece.

Sorry, I found it one of the most annoying things I had ever seen. I think the music and all the dance action gets in the way of the message they are trying to deliver. This may be fine for leisure travelers but I think your average business type would agree with me.

Very virgin america. It would not work on delta or united etc. The virgin america crowd will like it. It just seems a little long but i think its perfect for their crowd and the people they want.

It's long, but I like it. But what I really like about it is that it keeps using metaphors like "into the stratosphere" and "fly away with me" that remind the passenger that they are not actually metaphors... You really are about to do something extraordinary.

The only concern is that the safety message gets lost in the song and dance (literally).

Very fun and great marketing, but I agree that it's a bit much.

It also feels a tad too contrived to be as 'cool' as it should be - it doesn't feel effortlessly tongue-in-cheek like Delta's recent ones.

This video stands for everything I usually dispise. In general I think a safety demonstration should be just that, not a big flashy production. That being said, I actually really like it. Catchy, cute, produced very well, nice eye candy. I just wonder how the FAA approved it as I can't see an elderly person or someone who's English isn't great following it.

Loved it! I like the humor, the tunes, the little kids rapping, and the girls (but that IS how the Virgin group operates   )

I like DL's too, and I think both fit their respective brands quite nicely. DL's is more business-humor oriented, while VX's is more oriented to their target audience-younger travelers and those who enjoy this kinda thing.

I was just watching it again and noticed something-They say there are four overwing exits. What if they're on an a319?

Agreed. Most of VX's passengers will be english-speaking and between 20 and 50 with a fair amount of air travel experience, but that doesn't mean there won't be exceptions.

It's a hard call. Aimed at a certain age group I would agree.
I am 60 and I liked it,agree it was a little too long.
It should draw attention to something that will probably never happen in your life time of flying, but pls be aware.
If the event does happen the only thing you are probably going to remember is that the FA's are shouting at you to deplane, they won't be singing.

I guess they're going to have to edit for the new relaxed FAA #gatetogate portable electronic device rule.

Only in America!

I feel for the poor crew who have to listen to this 2/3/4 + times every day. Also the poor frequent flyer - I'd be investing in a solid pair of earplugs I'm afraid.

My thought exactly--although the rule changes weren't unexpected so hopefully they made an alternate version while they were at it...
