Flights can now be booked in GDS. Great to see Air Europa back.

I'm also now hearing Lufthansa will be coming back to MIAMUC next winter (replacing MIADUS).

According to the article flight leaves MAD at 1:15am which would mean an arrival at MIA around 4am? That can't be right. If it is why the need or the want for such a long layover in MIA for the airplane.

There was a lot of people confused with this. Maybe they didn't realize they were mistaken.

Does not seem like a smart idea to me. With those frequencies you can forget about high yield traffic. And why go directly against IB? and BA indirectly.

It is accurate. The flight will be a redeye from Madrid to Miami.

Actually if you think about it....full day of work in MAD, nice dinner off to airport....sleep for 10 hours on the plane....arrive MIA, shower and off to work you go....

Not so bad westbound ....if you are in J.
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

The Westbound timing also works brilliantly for South American and US West Coast connections.

Strange indeed, but not smart? We don't know what the underlying reasons are for starting MIA and what kind of research they did. Given the fact that this flight is contrary to what they're doing lately (and their plans in Latin America), I reckon they'll have a contract from a touroperator or something to make this flight profitable. We'll see what UXs plans are when they give more details. However, I'm wonder if UX really couldn't find better use for this A332 on these days (they don't actually have too many planes).

But with whom? AM's MIA-Mexico flights? AM serves MAD nonstop from MEX and UX serves CUN nonstop from MAD. AR's EZE-MIA? UX and AR already fly nonstop EZE-MAD. DL's MIA-hubs flights? DL would prefer to serve those pax via ATL or JFK I suppose.
Upcoming flights:
May: AM MEX-CUN 73H (Y), AM CUN-MEX 73W (Y).
August: KL MEX-AMS 74M (J), KQ AMS-NBO 788 (J).

The flight time works fine for passengers. I'm just surprised they would have the plane in MIA for around 10 hours. It is a bit unusual for European flights to see a layover like that.

That would make sense, but then they are foregoing the high yield passengers and they have done a lot of effort to position their C class. I hope it works for them.

Must be the only westbound redeye flight from Europe to the U.S. Only others to North America I can think of are one of IB's 2 daily MAD-MEX flights and the recently announced new LH service MUC-MEX. Flight time and time differences works better to MEX than to the U.S.

They don't necessarily have to connect to an alliance partner, though they certainly won't be connecting onward to AA due to a lack of an interline agreement between the two.

Agreed. Maybe they have plans to add a tag-on?

I hope they can make it work this time. If not, we should at least still be able to enjoy some bargains on the route when AA slashes its fares to try to drive UX out (again?).

TFN-MIA may have stood more chance if they had set up a code share with Binter to cover connections with all the other Canary Islands, feed from Morroco may also have been possible. Anyway when it did operate there was zero advertising for it outside of Tenerife. Shame.
I am off to Florida in two weeks but having to go via the UK with BA, as somewhat cheaper than Iberia from MAD!

Viscount724, another Westbound Europe-North America redeye is the AM CDG-MEX flight that leaves CDG at 23h15 and arrives in MEX at 5h10, a codeshare service with AF in addition to AF's daytime CDG-MEX flight.

Depends on how you see it. UX's J cabin isn't the cream of the crop in comfort and convenience. I'd go for AA's or IB's new J product a million times over their's.

Departing MIA at 14.50 opens grounds for brutal jetlag. This, on top of the frequency they chose doesn't make it the most convenient option IMHO.

IB-AA offers up to 3 daily MAD-MIA flights with lots of connections at both airports. I don't see how UX would make the route work with 3 weekly frequencies, strange schedule, low yield pax, inferior product and a long layover at MIA. I wish them luck though. If I were them I would focus on leisure market as they are very good at that, and not trying to compete with IB.

The word "pointless" comes to mind. UX generally have a poor to average reputation for customer service in Europe with surly crews and tight legroom. The A330s aren't amazingly comfortable either. Those printed flight times are simply awful.

Sometimes I wonder if there is anyone actually managing Air Europa these days.

Palmjet, I honestly don't understand your comment. How often have you flown UX? Your description of "poor to average reputation for customer service in Europe with surly crews" makes me think more of Iberia than Air Europa... and I've flown Iberia 52 times (last time just last weekend) compared to UX 39 times (last time last month)... And IB's long-haul business class is definitely not a pleasant experience (although admittedly I haven't flown the new updated seats). But catering is just plain awful and the entertainment selection on the PTVs appalling... and flight crew left alot to be desired. The last long-haul J-class flight I took with IB was just last July: MAD-LAX...
I think UX is doing some interesting things these days... and there expansion in Latin America is impressive. I believe that in August or September, they actually flew more passengers than IB did.
Although I agree... three day a week frequency on a route dominated by IB-AA leaves me a bit bemused.

Completely agreed.

UX is very anti-SkyTeam IMHO.

Flying those times (for the regular Y pax) will be very uncomfortable. I'm betting prices will be incredibly low for them to succeed on this service.

No, but from Spain as far as I know Miami is not as leisure as HAV, SDQ, PUJ or even NYC. Florida is not a popular holiday destination for Spaniards. Disneyworld might be the main attraction, and few people go there from Spain, having Disneyland Paris which is much cheaper and convenient.

Florida is a huge leisure destination to Spain, and they are going to Miami, not Orlando. The Spain-Orlando market is tiny.

With leisure I mean tourists, I live in Spain and based from my personal experience as a middle-class citizen I don't know many people who have gone to Miami on vacation, and between the ones who have, including myself, flew to Miami to go to Orlando. I don't know exactly, but I guess that the market between Spain and Miami is more about business and VFR. But I'm sure that New York or California+Las Vegas attract much more tourists from Spain than Miami.

Highly unlikely. Considering allowance for delays, customs/immigration clearance, transportation to/from the hotel, and getting back to the airport an hour or more before the return flight, thee wouldn't be much time for sleep. Doubt that would meet legal rest requirements.
