I recall being told on here a while ago in a discussion about the TOM 767's thare in this config that apparently they have a different exit door setup and reinforced floors to take the extra weight.

I remember flying on Airtours 767 with 8 abreast giving a total of 327 seats on the aircraft. By the time I got to Cancun I had to be crowbarred out of the seat. It was not very comfortable.

FYI, 2-4-2 on a 767 is significantly worse than a 777 at 3-4-3. I don't see any U.S. carriers adopting such configuration. The same goes with an A330 at 3-3-3.

Pretty sure I remember DL having 2-4-2 on their 767s a few years back. Not sure if that's still the case though.
Nope, DL never had any 767 configured in 2-4-2.

IIRC only UK charter carriers who steadfastly offered 28 in. pitch as standard had 2-4-2 configured 767s. Who else could get 298 seats on a 767-200! (I will stand corrected on that number, but it was not far from it. Go figure. And from the UK to Mexico. Ouch.
Quoting raffik (Reply 21):
Last year I was on EK's 777-300 and 777-200 with the 3-4-3 and found it very comfortable.
Quoting LHRBFSTrident (Reply 20):
IIRC AIr Mauritius 762s were configured 2-4-2 - I never flew it, but I recall a 'Flight International' print article about it (possibly the first time that config was implemented, hence the article)
Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 23):
according to the Flight International article in question dated June 4, 1988.

It depends on how long the type will remain in service with major scheduled airlines or their subsidiaries, however I think there are serious chances this could happen.
