It now says it crashed on approach.

Definitely a tragedy for such a small community. I know someone from Red Lake, and I'll definitely be getting in touch with him today to make sure all is OK with him and his family.

We landed about 45 min prior to the accident. It was fairly windy, with blowing snow, but still VFR.

I was shocked to hear about the Red Lake Crash last night. This accident hit home since we are a very small and close knit aviation community here in Winnipeg. R.I.P.

Sad and hits close to home as I've flown with Bearskin multiple time including a trip to Red Lake. I hope the two survivors are well. Interesting article in the Kenora Miner and News noting that 900 people lost power at the time of the accident.

Sad sad news. How was the icing around YRL at the time you flew? Man, I fly there quite often and it's just so unreal to hear about this crash.

Very sad, another metro crash, just a week ago another crashed in Bolivia killing 8 people... I remember watching some videos of Bearskin's Metroliner flights from Youtube just a couple of days ago...

This is the latest from CBC:

CBC has identified the Captain: Peter Traczuk. The rest of the names will be released when their families have been notified. Capt. Traczuk was well known around Winnipeg and loved by a lot of people. I can't even imagine what his family is going through right now.

This one hits close to home for me, one of the pilots was one of my former air cadets (I'm an officer with an air cadets squadron). He was probably 25-27 years old and would have learned to fly gliders when he was 16 or 17, and got his private pilot license I believe the year after. Rest in peace AS.

I still can not believe this. A sawant was my old flight sergeant back in the day when I was an air cadet. May he rest in peace.

CBC update. Sounds like they declared an emergency due to engine trouble.
