Quoting PSU.DTW.SCE (Reply 2): posturing for DL's request for additional DCA slots. DL's platform for more DCA slots is based on being able to serve small and medium sized markets, versus what the LCCs are likely to serve. Cutting MEM service and asking for more slots kind of flies in the face of that statement. |

Cutting MEM service and asking for more slots kind of flies in the face of that statement. It's #3 you hit the nail on the head. They were going to add something else with those slots that was unannounced and now they are going to promote that as only possible if they get more slots. I'm sure that's it. |

Quoting apodino (Reply 19): In this case, AVP basically becomes another TOL. AVP is only about a 90 minute drive from EWR, if that, so this could be an attempt to move connecting pax through more realistic hubs, rather than through EWR where they are likely getting very little O and D traffic. BDL is a bit of a further drive, but a lot of people who live in the BDL catchment area going overseas would rather just drive to a NY airport or take the train rather than fly from BDL, because much of the catchment area south of Hartford can easily use JFK or EWR, and the far eastern parts could also drive to BOS as well. Like with AVP, BDL connections to points west and south can be handled at IAD or ORD easily. |
Quoting apodino (Reply 19): I am eager to see if US is trying to free up some room here for a possible 2 or 3X ORD add from MHT. |

Quoting FlyPIJets (Reply 17): And DTW is less than daily. |
Quoting FlyPIJets (Reply 17): I should check pax counts for the Star City of the South. Maybe Roanoke has gotten smaller than I recall. I realize this is seasonal, but, 1 LGA flight (appears to be a permeant cut), ATL is down from 6x at one time, though mainline has been added. And DTW is less than daily. ROA down 4 to 5 flights a day could be 10% or more of the seats in ROA. is 10% a normal reduction for out-of -season airport traffic? |
Quoting PHX787 (Reply 33): Is this March only again? This route seems to be going every which direction. |
Quoting PHX787 (Reply 33): There is next to zero O&D on this route. It's actually kinda easier to drive that way this day in age because of the hassles of flying lol To those who signal a cut like this as a bellwether to CVG's demise, I just don't think that is a good excuse. However: |
Quoting steeler83 (Reply 22): MDT is hurting. DL is axing CVG service and UA is axing EWR from the looks of things. DL has been shrinking CVG for a while though. Are they going to shrink anymore or have they hit a certain point where CVG is turning a profit? I keep hearing/seeing mixed things regarding that.... |

Quoting kgaiflyer (Reply 25): Looks like CLE is being gutted. |
Quoting apodino (Reply 19): The bizzare thing about this is that US is already flying DCA-MEM. I would think that DL could posture by adding something else from DCA, say MKE, where DL has a sizeable presence. Adding a route that already has a carrier serving it, makes no sense to me, even if it is a former DL hub. |

Quoting PHX787 (Reply 33): If this goes, then I'm going to be throwing my cards out. This route has historically been one of the big keepers at CVG. It used to be 8 or 9 times a day....and it seems to be only one. Is this March only? |

Quoting slcdeltarumd11 (Reply 35): Seasonal only. Probably a smart move to prevent Virgin America who might be interested. Virgin America has alot of planes coming in. With the competition on LAX and United offering more than daily in the summer i think its one market they can gurantee Virgin America wont enter. I think its a smart defensive move and RDU-SFO probably makes good money. |
Quoting diverdave (Reply 44): The downside to the removal of CRJ2s from Delta's fleet is the loss of frequency. Thanks for the update! David |

Quoting DTW.SCE" class="quote" target="_blank">PSU.DTW.SCE (Reply 46): Its a non-issue. So HSV, is going all-717 in March, wheras now they have 4 - CR2 flights plus 4 D95 and MD88 flights. It is essentially capacity-neutral, and capacity naturally varies seasonally and day-of-the-week. HSV-ATL flights first and last flights do not changes, with the first flight at 5:30am and the last departure of the day 5:30pm. They retimed a few of the midday flights so the difference in frequency is neglible in the grand scheme of things. |
