Possible New jetBlue Cities In 2014?

Thu Nov 21, 2013 3:16 am

So we're closing in on 2014, and we're probably not going to see much more in the terms of new destinations from the airlines, so I began thinking of what 2014 has in store for JetBlue.

I know I harp on DAB a lot, but I really think this one is coming. Insider info from Daytona Beach revealed that they think they may see something later in 2014? There is a new Hard Rock Coming to Daytona in the next few years so I'm thinking that may stir up some pax traffic there, at least enough to justify NYC service.

Any other ideas of what we may see?

I would like to see some new routes,How about from PHL and BWI other than BOS. Do you think Melbourne Florida could sustain a MLB-JFK maybe BOS ? Since Southwest is cutting back in ATL at AirTrans hub, could ATL be a possibility again.

It will boost tourism and hopefully help DAB's seasonal issues.

This is out here alot. But what about MEX?
I could care less about it but, considering an FLL build up and a big MCO base. Could we possibly see MEX in the future?
Just an idea.

on a side note, JetBlue PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come to MYR! you charge 80 bucks each way for the CHS flights and they're exceeding expectations! You can steal away from NK at those prices with your service and brand recognition!   I can dream, can't I?

I could see BOS-ATL and BOS-MSP, but how much do they want to piss off DL after starting BOS-DTW? Keep in mind that when UA (formerly CO) moves out, DL will have all of Terminal A to itself and their partner AS.

I could see BOS/JFK-MIA as well to compliment their FLL and PBI service. And if they want to fill in the missing spaces in the metro areas they are big in, ISP and MHT will be on the list.

Once ATL, MSP, and MIA are added, they will have service to every market with over 400 PDEW from BOS!

2014 will be an exciting year for B6 in BOS. They will have all of Terminal C to themselves and their partner 9K. I wonder if they will open an airport lounge there the way they have in Terminal 5 at JFK. UA will have to move their United Club with them, and B6 should be able to take over that. Also, if EI moves their DUB flight up a bit, they will be able to pre-clear there and use Terminal C if they want to.

Maybe SAT?? Major tourist and business destination, large city with limited interurban traffic because of near-by IAH, DFW, and increasingly AUS

Just so we're clear here, the OP is referring to a Hard Rock Hotel which will open in Daytona Beach in 2016.

The failed Hard Rock theme park in Myrtle Beach was a licensed venture unrelated to the hotels and restaurants.

I look for continued growth in Boston and Ft Lauderdale.
A new route or so from JFK would certainly be in good measure.
JBlu will certainly be positioning themselves to jump on the buffet line for what's available from the AMR/LCC merger.

I agree with the above. It will be very interesting to see how many of the DCA/LGA slots go to B6. I'd love to see them make a bid for the DAL gates and open that new route. Maybe sme ORD expansion from the divested gates? They just started ORD-SJU.

With the significant void in the heartland http://www.jetblue.com/wherewejet/ I would think STL. The other might be CHA located roughly half way between ATL and BNA.

Looking at DL's recent strange response - I would throw fuel on the fire and jump into BOS-ATL and see what they do but have the bean counters prepared to go to war. Double miles promotions are not the weapon they used to be if that comes up: Skymiles isn't the greatest frequent flier program.

Since BOS-ATL has been suggested by several posters but JFK-ATL has not, why would BOS-ATL be more attractive for B6 than JFK-ATL considering that JFK-ATL is only operated by DL while BOS-ATL is operated by DL and FL/WN ? And, would there not be more intercontinental code share possibilities for ATL-JFK-XXX than ATL-BOS-XXX ?

BOS is the preferred business airport for Boston.
JFK is not the preferred business airport (domestically) for NYC.

Took a random date 12/18/13

Also DL already has 34 flights from LGA/JFK/EWR to ATL.

UA with 7
AA with 7
WN/FL with 5

53 total flights. Maybe DL doesn't even blink if they add 4 flights on the route.

BOS/MHT/PVD has

15 DL (11-BOS 3-PVD 1-MHT)
4 WN/FL (all BOS)

19 total flights

There's been a lot of talk about B6 and connections. I'd love to know what percentage of their passengers connect to a a partner airline. An optimistic guess on my part would be 5% average on a good day.

I know for a fact from experimental that B6 and EK has cheaper combo flights not showing up on ITA available on their respecitive sites.

Also one more thing - connecting the dots - is there potential for RDU-SJU?

They could start some key business routes from BOS, and that may entice others to switch to them. There are several ways they can react. It will be an uphill battle for B6. Don't forget that WN/FL is also on the route.

There's not many markets B6 has 100% 365/7/52 to themselves in BOS:

AUS
MSY
TPA (one can make a case WN does PVD/MHT)
SRQ (seasonal)
SAV (new route)
SJU
STI
SDQ
AUA

If I were B6 I would launch 3x E190 to MSP and 5x E190 to ATL.

If I were DL I would respond with 3x A320 to RSW, 1xa320 to AUS, 2 weekly a320 AUA, 2xA320 to TPA and 1x E175 MSY: Not key business routes just key markets in BOS. AUS really is the only sole legitimate business route here.

I doubt DL will respond with BOS-AUS because it's too long/thin. I checked WN's easy to use low fare calendar for BOS-ATL and it was $143-158. On Mar 4-6 r/t, it was $143 each way, and DL's fares came to the exact price.

WIth B6 on the route, demand will be stimulated and my guess is fares would drop to $90-120 for advance purchase fares. BOS-HOU has about $130 fares but it's longer.

If B6 could put back 1 LGB-ORD flight that would be great it was the only what to go from LA/OC to Chicago. Virgin has not giving up on LAX-ORD and airfare are always high.

I would like to see this happen, but I have to wonder if DL will play hard ball like they always have in the past at DAB by launching a daily LGA flight. This was their immediate reaction back when FL flew to the area. Once FL pulled out, DL yanked the route.

That said, the economy in the DAB area is certainly improving, and there is a lot of good going on. New Marriott, new Hyatt, building a Hard Rock, speedway renovations and the recently announced 'One Daytona' as seen here: http://www.onedaytona.com/

Perhaps over the next few years DAB can get back to what it was back in '05/06 days? I believe at peak there was UA, DL, CO, and FL all servicing the airports with relatively good service. Quick recollection has me remembering service to: CVG, BWI, LGA, EWR, ORD, IAD, and ATL.

The first post still leaves me completely befuddled. What does opening a Hard Rock have anything to do with anything? Maybe it's a reflection of some economic growth, but in itself, I can't imagine it would change air traffic in any meaningful way.

Wasn't saying there was not a relationship--just that the developers and operators of the failed theme park were not the same entity as the licensing organization or the developer of the hotel in Daytona Beach.

I'm going to throw you all a real curve ball.

If B6 gets a signficant amount of slots at LGA and/or DCA you will actually see ZERO, yes ZERO growth in BOS and Lauderdale. You may see flights cut at one of the hubs. My guess LGB.

They have around 10 planes coming next year. And they are not big on adding to that.

If you look at the last round of LGA/DCA slot pickups, flights were cut system wide to add to the new aircraft delivered to cover the new LGA/DCA flying.

The slots are too valuable and growth will shift to those places.

That said DAB, ATL, Quito, BZE are all good guesses in a world without LGA or DCA slots coming on line

If they win a signifcant amount of LGA and DCA slots, look for all growth there along with a few international flights out of JFK/FLL.

True, WN doesn't have a lot of trans-con service from BWI, but if B6 came in, I can assure you, WN would add plenty of service to kill B6.

Quoting jfklganyc (Reply 42):

I would agree. And I think it is fair to say B6 will get a nice chunk of flights at DCA and LGA (along with WN). I'm not gonna turn this into a guessing game but I would say about 6 flights from LGA and probably around 16-20 at DCA. With these additions, B6 would not be growing much outside of DCA and LGA.

With the significant void in the heartland http://www.jetblue.com/wherewejet/ I would think STL. The other might be CHA located roughly half way between ATL and BNA.

CHA especially and STL do not fit in B6s current model at all.

How are we supposed to know? They haven't announced even an intent to serve ATL.

There's not many markets B6 has 100% 365/7/52 to themselves in BOS:

It doesn't necessarily matter though. For example, if a company has offices in Boston, Baltimore, and Atlanta, a frequent flyer flying BOS-ATL who may switch to B6 if they start that route especially since they already fly B6 on BOS-BWI and can now get more miles with B6 than DL. If DL were to start BOS-BWI, then suddenly the advantage B6 had would go away. DL would be able to poach frequent flyers from B6 on BOS-BWI as well as FL/WN who flies on both routes. BOS-BWI is also large enough for three carriers.
