We will have to wait for the official announcement but if AC takes first delivery in 2017, the production rate increase might have favored the B737.

And precisely as I thought:

Quote:
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2017 with 2 aircraft, 16 aircraft in 2018, 18 aircraft in 2019, 16 aircraft in 2020 and 9 aircraft in 2021, subject to deferral and acceleration rights.

Oh darn...they are replacing both A320's and E190's with the MAX. I guess it's time to look for a job that doesn't include travel.

I can think of only one...Silk Air.

We can now add Air Canada to that list.

Such an overreaction. Looks like the #AirbusComfort campaign is working on some.

Congrats to Boeing. This is only the second customer to flip from Airbus to Boeing I believe ? Well done to Air Canada and Boeing.

Oh no. Just experience and personal preference of a person gaining his FF status the hard way - on domestic segments.

PS: My favourite aircraft is still the 763.

Sure, but I think the difference in comfort is exaggerated so badly.. I've flown both the A32x and 737 (non-Sky Interior) many times. While I agree there is a sliiiight comfort advantage in the A32x, it's hardly enough to make any deal over... It's nearly an A.net myth on here, along with the A340 being a gas guzzler.

I'm actually quite outraged by this. I know it seems silly but with AC ordering 737s, I may as well fly WestJet now. Their A320s were more comfortable then WS's and now they're one and the same. Oh well life goes on I suppose.

Well reading this thread for the first time today was interesting. Certainly a lesson in a.net order prognostications. Many peoples' insight has been called into question today (and a few vindicated).

I have a feeling disappointment may be in order... I doubt AC will go CSeries unless BBD can match the Boeing offer to buy 20 of the E190s.

On long-haul, Airbus definitely has a strong argument. On short-haul, while the difference is slight, I certainly find it noticeable. And I'm 5'10" 190lbs. Hardly huge. That extra inch matters on short-haul when it's a 4 hr run from YYZ to YVR or SFO and you are sitting beside a complete stranger.

I've had two strikes, myself, having believed LH would not order the 777X nor AC the MAX.  Smile

Ive been wrong here before and its not like I am here beating my chest. I was just passing along information that I heard and am more pleased to find out that what I thought seemed genuine turned out to be.

For a pilot its an exciting day. And I am happy for Air Canada and Boeing as I am sure this order will put them on solid footing as the deal struck must have been lucrative to sway an airline away from a system with such built up infrastructure.

Im also happy as I think further firming up of widebody aircraft could be forthcoming as well.

Wish you all a good day.

This is a very good win for Boeing. And I believe you are correct that the earlier availability played a major role here. Here Airbus loses a potential order because of the huge success of the A32X-neo which, combined with a less aggressive production increase, has resulted in longer delivery times. Now Boeing has to deliver of course with their ambitious increase of the production.

But congrats to Boeing and AC are in place.   .

AC's choice of seats and pitch are what makes the difference, not the aircraft type.

The only reason I'm upset is because I'm a bit of a GTF fanboy and Boeing (short-sighted morons that they are   )didn't offer my GTF on their 737-MAX!

You had a great original post when you laid out your information... very clear and concise. I'm happy for you as pilots generally get "beat up" on here for supposedly having "inside info"!
