Edmonton (YEG) Set To Announce New Route Friday 10a

Thu Dec 19, 2013 6:34 pm

Global News (Vinesh Pratap @vineshpratap) and FLYEIA are stating on Twitter that a new International route will be announced tomorrow for Edmonton at 10am MST.

Is this the Transborder route to DFW or something else?

My money would be on DFW as that rumour has been around for a couple mouths now. However it would be interesting to see another European destination (highly doubtful), and AC reaction...once again.

There has been speculations forever it seems about DFW. AA used to serve YEG from DFW with a stop in YYC up until the early 90's. That's when CP started their relationship with AA and when AA exited the market while routing all pax through YYC.

If it does turn out to be another carrier and another route, it would be quite the surprise.

My thoughts exactly, was just recently considering this addition from PDX, Air Canada offers seasonal 2x daily CRJ service from PDX to YYC, perhaps AS can do it year round.

I think CYLW was joking. CMA is Central Mountain Airlines, a small commuter carrier. And even 19-seat B1900's would probably be two much metal for twice daily flights to the tiny northern village of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, which is about 200 km north of Fort McMurray.

Sounds like Dallas

Starting in 2014, Edmontonians will have a new way to get to the Lone Star state through a direct flight to Dallas, Texas, Metro has learned.

Sources have told Metro that sometime in the first half of 2014, American Airlines will begin operating the direct flight from Edmonton International. More details on the flight were expected to be announced at a press conference Friday morning.

Edmonton Dallas on American Airlines would be my bet. Now with the US/AA merger it would make sense to lauch this. And with most likely a juicy package from EIA, the flight should do well year round. Hopefully it does as well as IAH and UA now at 2x daily.

Best wishes (in advance) to EIA and AA/US on the new route!

Maybe this will get EIA to use up all the empty space in the US check-in area past the DL check-in counters and give a few more gates to the US departures area. I'm sure the flight will depart in the morning in between 630AM and 830AM with all the other flights to the US and then arrive into YEG in between 1030PM and 1230AM with all the rest of the arrivals into Canada Customs. I just feel there's a lot of excess space that needs to be filled in still with the recent expansion and the old check-in areas were never moved or expanded.

Quoting flyb (Reply 18):
YEGinLeduc what you going to change your handle too when a Edmonton Annexation goes through?

I think I will wait till find a spot for the new "City of Champions" welcome sign. The southend of the city boundary will be halfway into Leduc when this goes through. Should be interesting to watch...

Quoting flyb (Reply 6):
and AC reaction...once again

How can AC react to this one? They don't have any US flights at the moment and seem content with channeling through YYC and codeshareing with UA. Im sure WS will codeshare with AA on this one that will help it be successful. Nothing against AC at YEG, but they really have to have at least one flight to the US if they want to whine and complain about this one or any US expansion.

So with this one, what else is YEG missing by the US Big 3? DL to SLC/ATL/DTW? AA to ORD/LAX? UA to IAD? The only one I can see happening is DL to SLC, but now with their concentration on SEA, I don't see much expansion at SLC for DL.

I think YYC-IAH was one of the "carve-outs" from the merger so does that mean UA/AC cannot codeshare on them?

The UA YEG-IAH were not listed as "carve-outs" when UA/CO merged.

It would serve you to do any semblance of research.

Go to www.United.com

Go to the flight status section, type in ORD and YEG.

See there are 2 S5 E70's ORD-YEG....

OK guys back on topic...Alberta-Texas is an enormous market thanks to the Oil & Gas Industry. No doubt that if WS code shares, this flight will also be attractive for those traveling to/from YQU and YMM as well.

Really? That's how you're gonna be about this? Maybe you should go to every other thread about UA and make sure people start using the UAX instead of the name that most people actually call it. Relax.

And also, maybe you should've added that to your original post:

Times don't cater well for travelling north at this time. But Spring schedules haven't been announced by WS. But the potential is there. There flight times cater well for the business traveller between the two destinations.

Will be interesting to see if UA adjusts their flights to IAH, those flights seem to be overbooked, and their has been rumours about a 3 daily. This should make the IAH route more competitive in pricing. Can't remember the last time I paid under a grand to fly to IAH.

A little confused by the schedule. Isn't 19:25 to 08:10 an awfully long (almost 13 hours) period of nativity for the plane overnight? Is AA's fleet utilization typically this LAX?

I wish our sole US flight from YMM (DEN) had such a generous schedule, instead of arriving past 23:00 and leaving at 6:00 sharp!

With the new FAA rules regarding pilots, I think you'll be seeing more of this in smaller outstations as they are required 10 hours of rest now instead of the 8 or whatever it was before.

At first I thought this, but it seems like it's set up to allow the same crew to do in and back without having a double overnight.

^ I think once AA has fully integrated with US, you will see a change in the schedules. US flies to YEG 2x a day from PHX and sooner or later the US pilots will get training on the new 319's (if its is necessary)

I think the timing allows the same crew to fly in and then fly out the next morning on a new day. The arrival time into DFW leaves a tight connection for what seems to be a bank of flights at 2PM. Im suprised AA didnt ask for a 0630 deptarture from YEG. It would match up to the YYC flight better and arrive into DFW for the 1 PM deptartures.

With the YMM flight that UAX has they either have to double-double overnight in YMM or they must have a really long "layover" in YMM.

Eventually, but there is really not that much difference between the 2. An A319 is an A319 for the most part. Might be a few small things but each pilot group should be able to fly an A319/320/321 no matter who's it was in the past.
