WN At LAS

Mon Dec 23, 2013 12:57 am

We were at the Las Vegas Bowl and had the opportunity to watch all the approaches while tailgating..To us it appeared that WN had about 3 or 4 of very 5 flights coming in. So, a Question to someone that knows..what exactly is WN's share of flights/ market at LAS?

Based on todays data, LAS had 486 departures, WN had 204 of those. This would equate to 42% of all movements for them.

100-199 is a Mega
200 or more is a Super Mega...LAS and MDW are the only 2 stations that hold that title.

According to the Bureau Of Transportation Statistics, for the period of October 2012-September 2013, WN had a 43.85% share at LAS. WN has been the dominant carrier at LAS for a number of years, even when HP/US had a hub there.

Add BWI to that list.

I was at the Vegas Bowl back in 2011. The stadium is in the ideal place to watch incoming traffic into LAS (as long as you are not sitting in the end zone). In fact, I didn't realize PAL flew to LAS (at that time) until I saw it on approach during the game.

That's info included with Airtran, I was referring to canyon blue aircraft only. AirTran operates 18 flights a day into BWI so that would put them 8 shy of 200 but by the end of the year the Beast of the East will be a Super Mega!

Per CAPA, which uses OAG data for seats, in the week of 23rd December 2013 WN has 44% (384,810) of all seats, DL 9.2%, AA 6.9%, UA 6.6%, NK 5.4%, G4 5.3%, US 4.0%, AS 3.0%, and others 15.2%.

Is this counting regional correctly ? Whenever I'm at LAS I see far more UA planes than AA ones, not to mention nearly 10x daily from SFO, so only 6.6% for UA feels low

I flew WN from LAS to MCI last Saturday (day of the Las Vegas Bowl) and was surprised to see quite a few DL aircraft taxi by during the 4 hours I hung out in Terminal C. Terminal C was very busy and 80% of WN's flights were at least 10 minutes late. Our flight was almost an hour late departing with good weather up and down the west coast. Our aircraft flew DEN-PDX-OAK-LAX-LAS-MCI.
I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

I think WN only has a few outstations that don't fly to LAS. Mainly some small East Coast stations.j

Funnily enough, I was at the game on Saturday and was disappointed to find myself in the end zone with no view of the LAS traffic.

A thing I noticed at LAS last week -

The amount of WN flights now being operated by the -800 through LAS and the lack of wide body & 757 flights operated by American, Delta, United and US Airways compared to previous times I have visited.
