FAQ

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operates less than daily it will become affected by the unqual number of days in each month. For example, if a flight runs on Tuesdays only and a month has 5 Tuesdays it will show 5/31=.16=0.2 (if 31 days), but 4/31=.129=.1 if the month has 4 Tuesdays.

WHAT ABOUT CARRIERS THAT DON'T PUBLISH A SCHEDULE 9 MONTHS AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN ADVANCE?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. I remove the schedule adds if I see them and show a year over year (YOY) comparison if I notice them.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ERROR?
The carriers file the schedules. They do make mistakes. Most of the mistakes I have seen are either related to code shares not being marked as "duplicates" or carriers filing flights with invalid data such as equipment codes that are not standard. This causes flights to not appear.

CHARTERS?
Lately charters have been showing up in the database. I have no idea if that will continue.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Very happy to see these back to Delta. Allows people to use miles for these expensive airports and SLC connections. The old service you couldn't use miles since it was great lakes. Canyonlands field so great to see Delta service for this summer! Moab is so incredibly hard to get to but so worth it, such a sick town! The EMB 120s are so important to skywest still it woudl be great if they had some replacement to consider.

Vernal has the oil industry which is nice to fill some seats.

I'm guessing this is at-risk flying by SkyWest, similar to their flying to West Yellowstone, correct?

I would say it's mostly a summer add. This does not seem like a retaliation to me. I think B6 will struggle at first but in the long run I think both carriers will be able to coexist.

Well not much risk as the US gov't is paying them to go to all 3 via EAS.
Also glad to see SkyWest coming into the two locales.
Has either had a plane the capacity of EMB 120 since Frontier's CVR days?

I'd think that if it were a retaliation, we'd see more than a one daily increase. Unless they're transitioning to all 739s or 757s, I agree, I think it's just a summer increase.

A question: it seems to me that international route changes are less frequent than domestic route changes. Is this the case, or is it simply that all these airlines have far more domestic routes, and hence far more domestic route changes?

I believe that DL (SkyWest) took the EAS $$$$$ that previously went to ZK (DEN) and now it shifted to DL (SLC).

FLL maybe be a seasonal adjustment, while PHL, MSP and STL are probably more capacity adjustments, as well as maybe needing birds for other markets. DEN-PVD, along with DEN-MHT, were supposed to go away altogether, and now.... maybe it's being brought as the summer seasonal route? DEN-PVD PDEW are around 90 in the summertime, and a slightly bit higher for MHT, which WN also cancelled....... probably just enough O&D pax for these long-thin flights.

I've long suspected that STL was the weakest of the three, but they need some service on the route for crew and aircraft rotation reasons. I don't know that it bodes anything--good or bad--for RDU/BDL. It's an equally small, uneconomical operation with STL at 3/day or 2/day.

Was the July cancellation suppose to be DEN-ILG in lieu of DEN-PHL. I'm told F9 no longer flies DEN-PHL opting in stead for ILG which is a greater Philly airport. To my knowledge the only route F9 flies out of PHL is to Punta Cana in the Caribbean for Apple.

Nope DEN-ILG does dip from 3X weekly to 2X weekly for January and The first half of February but is back at 3X for Mid-Feb thru the end of the schedule.

PHL also flies CUN for Apple as well.

The DEN-PHL flight appeared in last week's OAG thread - to my considerable surprise:

OAG Changes 12/20/2013: AA/AS/DL/US (by enilria Dec 17 2013 in Civil Aviation)

"F9 DEN-PHL JUL 0>1.0"

And has gone away this week, so presumably last week's entry was a misfile.

But yes, Frontier still does fly from PHL to CUN and PUJ as in the Apple schedule at least until the end of 2014 - which is about as far as those schedules are published.

A question: it seems to me that international route changes are less frequent than domestic route changes. Is this the case, or is it simply that all these airlines have far more domestic routes, and hence far more domestic route changes?

Traditionally int'l schedules have only been changed twice per year. It is much more frequent now, but the slots in most int'l airports make it harder to change schedules.

I'm guessing this doesn't bode well for the future of this and the other at-risk flights from PIT.

It was added as PHL a week ago I think (maybe two). I figured it was a utilization red-eye tied to Apple or something, but maybe just a mistake but not on my end.

Yay! AA used to schedule a 757 for the mid-day flight that was always packed, but replaced the 757 with an MD-80 when the ex-TWA 757s went to DL. That one MD-80 in the afternoon fills up fast and if you don't book months in advance your only remaining choice is to connect in LAX. I which aircraft type will be used for the additional flight?

It's a one-off charter flight. There are a few others like PHX-CLE/BHM that don't show up here for some reason.

I guess many here, think there will be a few more cities added from SEA, BOI, GEG, DEN & PHX I've heard bantered around.

I don't see DL doing anything like RDM, EUG or MFR from SEA. I like the excitement, but It's hard to sit back and watch it unfold.

I hope those who are fond of AS, send what business they can to AS, loyal flyers speak for the carrier, louder than any rhetoric. Just my two cents, and I am practicing what I'm suggesting.

AA doesn't fly to YEG right now, it's a "new" destination for PMAA. The other 5 destinations are YVR, YYC, YYZ, YUL and YKF. YOW is going to be discontinued and YHZ was axed not so long ago. However, if we add US, the new AA is going to fly again to YOW, YHZ and also YQB.

Indeed. AA hasn't flown its own aircraft into YEG for almost 20 years. Since 1996, AA has only served YEG via codeshare - with Canadi>n, WestJet, etc.

Quite an impressive Canadian network, particularly given that AA doesn't benefit from the type of feed United does via Air Canada. Adding in the three current USAirways-unique markets (all of which, notably, have been served by AA/Eagle at some point in the last ~10 years), AA's Canada presence will be quite strong - obviously with the continued historical emphasis on YYZ, a market where AA has a very long-lasting strength stretching back many decades.

Yes, it is good to see the new AA present in 9 destinations instead of the 6 it would serve on its own. However, both UA and DL fly to more destinations in Canada and from more hubs. The largest gap for the new AA is now YWG. Apart from that, it would be great if the new AA expands its Canadian network from ORD to increase their competition against UA, in line with what Parker said about expanding at Chicago. YVR, YYC and YEG are all flown only from DFW, for example.

I agree - AA could afford to grow some more in Canada, and I think the merger might give them the opportunity to do that in some instances. However, absent any growth, AA will still have quite a strong transborder presence. Similar to the competitive landscape in Mexico, while Delta and United might serve more cities in Canada, AA will have a network generally more concentrated on more dense coverage of big markets - chiefly YYZ. Net of any changes post merger, AA will have transborder market share approaching United and more than double that of Delta.

There is a filter on minimum operations. If it operates once it doesn't show up. They must be running multiple charters for the Auburn - FSU game.

BTW, are we sure this is a pure charter? I bet anybody can buy tickets on this. The question is how. If it isn't on their site it is probably via a travel agency in Auburn.

Eastbound, it's two flights with scheduled flight numbers on 321s. Flight numbers are 667 and 847. I can't find the westbound flights, but I expect that the two eastbound flights alone would make it show up, right?

AA DFW-PNS MAY 6>5

Interesting note on this one, it appears that AA will be bringing mainline to DFW-PNS starting in May. The current schedule shows it starting in mid-May and AA will run 4x daily with 2xERJ and 2xMD80. It's only in the schedule for a few weeks before going back to the default 6xERJ in June, but that's likely because AA hasn't really completed the domestic schedule for summer.

I was expecting AA to upgauge some of the ERJ's to larger E170's or CRJ700, but to go straight to mainline is a bit surprising. If this holds, this would be the first time AA mainline has flown to PNS with regularly scheduled since the very early 1990's.

I was surprised by WN reduction on the BOS-MKE market since it is the only carrier on the route and it is a very popular market from MKE. Is this an opportunity for B6 or DL to move in on the market? I hope that WN will bring back the 4th flight to MCO in the June, July & August months or there are going to be a lot of people going to MCO via DL. Oh Delta get ready to have more passengers to MCO this summer!!!!

My mistake, US is operating a live BHM-LAX section on 1/3 and two live LAX-BHM sections on 1/7 all on A321s. The charters I was thinking of will op out of Tiny, unreadable text leaves ample room for interpretation.
