Tue Dec 31, 2013 6:09 am

Great news for anyone who missed out on riding the iconic DC10 before it was withdrawn with Biman - you may get another chance if you're very quick!

Plus final DC-10 scenic flights in February from BHX...

http://www.biman-airlines.com/about/...e17663-312b-46ba-93d6-3d7e508f36b8

Very interesting indeed! Just like the Monarch A300 flight on the 13th April. The end of two eras!

On the Biman site it says Birmingham (BHX) to Birmingham (BBS). BBS is Blackbushe, a small airfield in Hampshire. I assume that they've only put that in because their system prevents from and to being the same location?

Anyone know of any other airlines putting on flights of this nature in 2014?

Consensus among friends is that BBS = "Biman Birmingham Sightseeing" due to their system not accepting BHX-BHX as a possibility.

I'll be there.

Fantastic, enjoy it and take pictures to share. I was planning to fly BHX-SEA, but obviously the US would not allow the 5th freedom right to operate this one off flight. What a waste of a good 10 hour segment. If it changes, I can be there in 48 hours.

I am confirmed on
Segment #1 BG-8 BHX-BBS 24 Feb 2014 DC10 Scenic Tour

Monday 24-Feb 3:00 PM 4:00 PM
Departs Birmingham (BHX) Lands in Birmingham (BBS) BG-8
Economy Class Nonstop

I have paid for a window seat which wasn't anywhere near cheap.
I just hope they will give us what we paid for. I would not want to find myself with an aisle seat.

I hope this very last passenger scenic flight will turn into a big party in the sky.
I flew on many a DC-10 during my life. This particular flight will be quite an interesting experience.

I added a day return CDG-BHX-CDG to complete the lot.

I have just checked their website and all three flights on Sunday are currently open for booking, both window and aisle seats. The Saturday flights will only open up once those on Sunday are full or nearly full; the same thing happened with the Sunday flights themselves: Monday filled up, Sunday opened up. My father is a retired pilot and I was thinking of buying him a ticket for the last flight DAC/KWI/BHX. Fare is quite cheap at 600 GBP and would use my points to get him to DAC on Qatar so not out much cash.

Do you guys think it would make a good surprise birthday gift? I was going to get him tickets on the scenic flight in BHX but figured a long journey would be more fun for him and he would love to see the DC10s, F28s and other parked planes in Dhaka - one airport that he has never seen but I've flown out of many times.

Tell me if it would be appreciated!

Well - if he is an aviation lover like you are (caring enough to ask here) - then hell yeah!

I hope he enjoys Dhaka ... the political situation is much better now!

It might be a good idea to put your mother in the picture.

Then if he starts talking about doing something else on that day, then she can come up with a plausible reason why that other activity is not possible.

Finally booked it! Had a few issues as my bank card wasn't allowing me to book it online :S

On the 12:00 PM on the 22nd February. Thanks A'netter Thai744 for this thread, without which i would've never have known about this.

Interesting conversation with my wife though:

Me: I want to go on this scenic flight.
Wife: From where and going where?
M: Birmingham and back to Birmingham.
W: Confused!? Why aren't you going anywhere, but spending to come back tot he same airport.
M: Its on this unique aircraft type, with the last one in commercial service being discontinued.
W: You are paying for a ride on an old aircraft:
M: Yes, this was built in 1988 and the last one of its kind.
W: where have you kept the life insurance papers, just for my reference.?
....
Goes on for another 25 minutes upon which she gave up and gave me the green signal.
Result!

... or a scenic flight out of Seattle. That would be fantastic, and they probably could fill several trips.

Enjoy, all of you who have bought a seat on one of these flights. You'll take part in a memorable piece of aviation history.

Booked my ski holiday for the wrong week. Or shall I come back for a day? Decisions, decisions…

Latest news is the aircraft will remain in pax service til the last possible moment:

As per 22JAN14 GDS timetable/inventory display, BIMAN Bangladesh Airlines further extends planned DC10 scheduled operation. The DC10 aircraft is scheduled to operate last scheduled service on 15FEB14, Dhaka – Kuala Lumpur, instead of 13FEB14 (Kuwait – Dhaka).

Planned DC10 schedule to Kuala Lumpur from 01FEB14 to 15FEB14 as follow.

BG086 DAC0915 – 1500KUL D10 35
BG086 DAC1205 – 1750KUL D10 6

BG087 KUL1630 – 1815DAC D10 35
BG087 KUL1930 – 2115DAC D10 6

This is in addition to the Kuwait flights which run until Feb 14.

Config is 314Y. You can sit as close to the front of the plane as you like. I think the forward cabin (between doors 1L&R and 2L&R) is rows 1 to 10. I'll be onboard from DAC-BHX so I will confirm this and post it so you can make sure you are sitting where you want to on the BHX sightseers.

Disappointed - Have already had to arrange a quick return flight back to SIN from a business trip in ADL to be here for my daughter's birthday on 21st Feb, so an added dash to BHX for one of the final flights on that weekend is a bridge too far, I'm afraid. Very envious of the lucky ones who will be on those flights. Enjoy.
