What Happened To RyanAtlantic?

Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:26 am

So I was on a Wiki tangent and noticed something very interesting; RYANATLANTIC. This would be RyanAir's trans-Atlantic counter part. I also noticed an older airliners.net post from 2008 talking about RyanAtlantic.

Service is expected to start in 2014 (this year) but I can't find many news releases or really anything about it. Seats would start at 10.00 euros with an over-priced business class option.

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about RyanAtlantic getting off the ground in the near future.

Any ideas of aircraft, routes, bases, or a first flight month or year?

Thanks,

It was just an idea, really, put forward by Ryanair. If it materialised it'd be an entirely separate company. Nothing has come from it

Ryanair (FR) will not offer any transatlantic flights in the near future, also not in the middle future, i guess.

FR have clearly said that they themselves won't operate any such flights, but they might start a separate airline that does. However, I think it's unlikely we'll see one.

The Legacies would start a blood bath - pretty much like when Laker started the SkyTrain back in the seventies, and MOL is smart enough to know that.

There is nothing new under the sun.

What was the reason they made it public that FR wanted to do transatlantic services anyhoodles? Were they just trying to scare BA, AA, and DL? Oh yeah, and UA? Did they want to compete head on with EI to places like Boston and the New York area? I am sure that HPN would have welcomed international flights since FR doesn't fly to convenient airports.

maybe something like STN-HPN/ISP etc works if the fares are low enough, but nobody has tried this yet - probably for a good reason.

ISP? likely. HPN? I don't think so. Very expensive airport and the locals would not allow it. SWF would be more likely.

This was probably little more than a way of getting Ryanair mentioned in the media, as on so many occasions in the past.

Didn't Freddie Laker's 'Skytrain' get there first over 40 years ago?

I remember when this idea was first suggested and reported in the UK media. MOL was suggesting that he would be able to sell his £10 seats by charging overprice on a small "business" cabin. To make money on that you'd have to charge a lot for these business seats, and if you're willing to pay £££ for a business seat, who in their right mind is going to choose FR STN-SWF (or wherever they decide to call New York) over the likes of BA club world LHR-JFK (or any of the majors on transatlantic routes)?
