US-AA Hub To Hub Flights

Now that the codeshare between US and AA has started, I was browsing US Airways site to see what was changed. I searched for a CLT -MIA flight on several different dates. On this route, American has 5 flights a day, all operated by Eagle Embraer 145's . US operates 7 flights all on mainline aircraft mostly A321's.

With the amount of new connection traffic alone, I'm surprised AA didn't upgrade this route to mainline service immediately. Those Embraer's are going to fill up fast. Maybe they plan to make changes in the near future?? What other hub to hub flights need upgrading or schedule changes until the airlines can fully integrate?

While they have started the code share US-AA hub flights have not been adjusted yet, I would think all RJ flying btwn hubs will be gone soon. Like when AA bought TWA AA stopped flying ORD-STL and let TWA do it all I suspect the same will happen here ORD-CLT will be only flown by US etc

Agree, though will be interesting to see when. If I am not mistaken, the only hub-hub flights they will actually have to start will be PHL-JFK.

US briefly ran PHL-JFK last year with E90 equipment. The success of CLT-JFK for US has been phenominal, while B6 has been left with a token presence.

Here is an interesting tidbit of trivia. Once AA begins to operate the PHX-PHL hub to hub route, it will mark the return of this route for AA after a 30 year absence. AA used to fly nonstop between PHX and PHL, but the route was discontinued sometime in the early 80's.

Equipment and flight times have not been adjusted. On the DFW-PHX route, AA and US have flights that leave within five minutes of each other.

It seems to me, that scheduling to get rid of these duplicate flights would be first priority.

US has upgraded their presence somewhat on the PHX-DFW route it seems. In March I will be flying a 757 on the route, which used to be almost all A320 and I think one A321. Plus, AA has upgraded many of the MD80 on the route to 737.

US currently has 5 per day in each direction, 4x321 and 1x320 (319 on off peak days). In March on "flex" days that goes 6 A321s PHX-DFW and 5-A321s and 1-A319 DFW-PHX.

10 a day in the winter, goes to seven in the summer.

I think that ORD-PHX is worth mentioning as well. Although it is not Eagle, AA has gone back and forth on redeploying the MD80 on this route, which like LAS, should be all 738.

This route has seen a 757 since I want to say around 2010.

Will be interesting to see what equipment will be used on LAX-PHX. I am sure AA will redeploy the few CRJs they have on the route to other destinations and instead go all mainline.

We will also have AA back at BUR!

What I find intreresting here is that from pmAA's second largest hub all these flights (save for one PHL flight) are all Eagle E-jets and CR7's... and US runs all A321's except for one A320 on each route.

Surprised there's no pmAA mainline on those routes (again save for the one 738 to PHL)
