Rumor: AC Restarting PDX-YYZ?

According to this forum AC is restarting PDX-YYZ:

However I cannot find the flights they are specifying. Can anyone else?

Not sure why AC discontinued the seasonal PDX-YYZ flight in the first place, it was always completely sold out and always very difficult to find space on.

That used to be the longest E190 route in the world I believe. Wonder if they will keep it on the route or put in an A319, if the demand is as high as you say.

AC's longest for the E190 was YYZ-SNA, about the same as YYZ-SAN, which was also daily with the E190. Amazing when you consider that neither of those two airports could go No-Alternate-IFR, so they always had a legal alternate!

YYZ-SNA was never an E190 route, only A319, if my memory serves. I did the flight on the A319 once, very poor yields on the SNA-YYZ sector but great yields on the flight to SNA.

Nope, three months as a day turn on the E190. Then they canned the route.

What's the traffic like on the PDX-YYZ?

I'm curious to see how long this flight would last with mainline before being handed over to Rouge as SAN will be.

An AC insider over on the other board confirmed there are no plans currently to restart YYZ-PDX.

I can imagine the yields would be trash on SNA-YYZ on an E90. Seems to be a stretch, especially off SNA's runway. Seems tailored to the A319

According to the forum, the new PDX-YYZ schedule has suddenly disappeared from the booking engine. Could it be an IT issue or are they prepping for announcement soon?

AC currently serves SEA-YYZ with the E90 (distance 2060 mi); SAN-YYZ (2157 mi) once upon a time was flown with the E90 before being upgraded to a 319. PDX-YYZ is 2097 mi.

The rouge fleet today consists only of A319s and B767s -- no E90s. So if PDX-YYZ is re-started by rouge, it would have to be with the Airbus. And as it never was before, who knows if the traffic is there for the 319?

I will comment that YVR-SAN was also op'd with the E90 for many years and then was suddenly cancelled in Fall of 2012. I never heard a full explanation as to why that happened as there seemed to be plenty of traffic on the route. There were rumors that it was something unusual to do with economics of the plane and the route other than LFs or even yields. Maybe a similar issue was happening with the Portland route...

The yields were the same whether an A319 or an E190. As many have stated, the E190 is a very comfortable way to spend five and a half hours.

The E190 was quite capable of flying YYZ-SNA-YYZ, and no flights had to stop en-route for fuel.

Do airlines make announcements when they pull a route, or just when they exit a station? I know as an agent we were often notified by our sales reps when a carrier was planning on pulling a route, sometimes before it was public news.

From those I know in the travel industry here in Portland, this flight was almost always full, but yields were not there to support it. Age old story, there are just more profitable places to fly that aircraft in the AC system.

PDX has had so many new adds the past couple of years, with more coming this year, I guess once in a while you loose a few as well.

Last time I was able to go to YYZ, I flew TW PDX-SEA-PDX on L10s, and TG SEA-YYZ-SEA in J on a new M11, a great trip, a wonderful city and a long time ago.

It has operated by a 319 several years during the summer months.

Could they be going to Rouge for this flight? I would like to use it as an alternative to having to fly on UA/US/AA from here?
