Qantas To SGN?

Sun Mar 02, 2014 12:45 pm

Curious to know in what time frame and what aircraft type did QF operate to Ho Chi Minh/Saigon with?

And was it a direct flight from SYD?

Looks like QF began SYD-SGN-SIN-SYD on 2 Nov 94. The service was gone by 1 Feb 98.

Services, at least initially were on a 767-338.

Source: various Qantas timetables.

Cheers.

Jetstar then started this one with A330s but dropped it and routed it via Darwin, to free the aircraft up for Japan routes.

QF continue to codeshare with VN on their flights from MEL and SYD to SGN and HAN. Given how Qantas Frequent Flyer is set up, if you buy the flights with the QF codes on then they are "Qantas" flights for the purposes of miles/status earn.

Quoting RyanairGuru (Reply 3):

Do you know if we can also use QFF points to redeem seats on VN? I could not find that information on the QF website.

It doesn't look like it -- the system is either sending me via SIN onto 3K or via HKG onto CX. It might be something that the call centre can do, but I'd be surprised.

It should also be noted that QF provided some defence force charters during the period of the Vietnam War carrying relief forces into Vietnam and returning with troops on completion of their tour of duty. Flights were mainly SYD - SGN - SYD with 707's. I was on one such flight. 4 Jun 67 SGN - SYD, VH EAA.
remember the t shirt "I own an airline"on the front - "qantas" on the back
