Quoting DJM18 (Reply 24): Question for everyone on this thread: Is the work being done on the aircraft only cosmetics (paint/interior/wifi) or are they also doing major work on the airframe and engines? I am just amazed at the fact that they can have planes out of service for such a long period of time, it is very expensive to have a $200 MMM 777 idle for such a long time. It would make more sense to me if the planes also gets a major overhaul so as to come back on line better than new from an airworthiness perspective. |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 103): Is there any news on the installation of Inseat Power in Economy of the 744's? Is UA still going to do that, or is it likely to get pushed a year again to 2015? Seems a bit discouraging that they originally stated 2013, then pushed it back to 2014. |
Quoting BG777300ER (Reply 104): The United web site states 744s have in seat power in all seats. |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 105): That said, this site (which I think I've seen linked around these forums a couple times); http://sites.google.com/site/unitedfleetsite/mainline-fleet-tracking shows that currently just one has all Power Outlets. Though I'm pretty sure I found that site through these forums, I just want to be sure, is that a good resource, or is there a different one I should look toward? |

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 109): 739: N68807 exited INT 2145/19Apr. Amenities shows DTV and WiFi. Think the DTV is an error as I believe sUA 739ERs are to get streaming WiFi. |
Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 108): If someone can confirm the electric outlets on all 744s I will change the Fleet Website. |
Quoting iahcsr (Reply 115): I still think they should have started the 789s at Ship 930... Unless they plan a lot more 788s |
Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 118): 739: N68821 new delivery exited SEA induction 2174/22Apr |
Quoting kgaiflyer (Reply 56): Quoting UA444 (Reply 53):They are far less comfortable than the seats they are replacing. Flew on one yesterday -- Aircraft #4269 flying as UA772 LAX-IAD. Utterly no lumbar support -- like being lashed to a back-board for 4 1/2 hours. |
Quoting av8ornta (Reply 122): Hey guys, I'm on UA284 PHX-EWR. A319 N4023 with grey leather slimline seats, last row window. I'm 6'1", -even with the seat in front of me reclined, my knees aren't touching the seat back. After all of the complaints I read about the new seats, I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. The seat is fairly comfortable as well |

Quoting atcsundevil (Reply 132): That's a fairly lame little sticker considering it's a reasonably significant milestone for the 737. It would have been nice for it to have been displayed a bit more predominantly, but maybe that's just me. Although I suppose that when the current goal is to have the entire fleet looking the same, things like that fall by the wayside. Thanks for the photos nonetheless! |
Quoting CALTECH (Reply 133): Guess that's how 'they' wanted it. |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 134): Quick question, is there really no IFE except for wifi on the Hawaii reconfigured 777? No power ports either? |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 136): The fact that they have no overhead monitors or power ports right now |
Quoting atcsundevil (Reply 135): Well I'm not happy with whoever "they" are! I think they could have at least done the the UA 787 scheme or something to make it a little more special rather than just a weak little "8000" sticker that, unless it appears on both sides of the aircraft, will apparently only be seen in detail by catering crews! |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 136): What the hell are you doing UA....:-( |
Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 137): N215UA SFO exit now delayed |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 136): Thank You...The fact that they have no overhead monitors or power ports right now just removed UA off my consideration list for this couples trip from Houston to Hawaii. The nonstop 777 is no longer an attractive option...even in F. |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 136): What the hell are you doing UA....:-( |
Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 137): Surprising thing is that the old business seats now in the Hawaiian 772s had power previously - couldn't just hook up the power to those reused seats? |
Quoting CALTECH (Reply 138): There is one on the other side by the entry door. |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 139): My thoughts exactly... It's worse on the 744's. At least they took them off of Australia service, or what that's worth... Though SFO-Asia, FRA, and some LHR is sadly still stuck with them. Agreed. I'll pretty much only fly a 744 if I'm up front. I've managed to successfully avoid Economy by booking another aircraft, airline, or upgrading for at least 10 years now! [quote=S75752,reply=139]I really do hope that they manage to get Economy power on all of the 744 fleet before too long, a much needed addition, especially if they are banking on the Wifi and streaming IFE (Both of which I'd think would drain a device's batteries before a longhaul flight is likely to be even halfway or a quarter through.) If they don't bother getting power on them... well... It seems like the A350 can't push the 744's out of service quickly nor soon enough. |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 139): For those that have dealt with the streaming entertainment though... Is it on demand, or just looping? |
Quoting atcsundevil (Reply 141): I haven't used the WiFi Stream yet, but my understanding is that it's an on-demand service with movies and TV shows (maybe music too?). It sounds like it basically functions like the installed AVOD in the rest of the fleet, with play/pause/rewind/fast forward. If it works the way it's supposed to work, it should be a pretty good system. Since it's on your own device, it may even function better than some personal AVOD systems...those freeze and crash sometimes and the touch screens are generally pretty poor. |
Quoting n515cr (Reply 140): Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 137): N215UA SFO exit now delayed So is 215 actually in for mods now after its random hops? |
Quoting durangomac (Reply 146): Quoting Thomaas (Reply 145): Does anyone know what the E175 seats look like ? Are they similar to the new signature seats introduced for the CRJ700 and 737 or are they just the basic grey seats ? There are a couple photos floating around but they are like the new CRJ-700 seats. |
Quoting atcsundevil (Reply 141): I believe one has already had power ports installed in Y. I'm guessing it just needs its certification and then it'll be installed across the fleet. |
Quoting strfyr51 (Reply 144): the Seat power and the Wi Fi integration are not compatible at this time, Seat power was previously installed on some airplanes but was deactivated because it was unreliable. |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 148): It still seems a bit nutty (but somehow not too surprising) to me that United seemed to jump ahead and show the 744's as having power in economy for the seatmap on their site, while at this moment, as far as I know, they only have one done at the time of this posting... |
Quoting S75752 (Reply 148): Wi-fi's easier to get certified? |
