I might add that the SJC flying actually starts in mid May and is a welcomed return to the network and will be on the 767 again. Also, the OGG-LAX flight that was previously announced as 330 year round starting in July is now starting early. It will start May 2nd on the 767 and then switch to the 330 on June 5. The other OGG-LAX frequency looks to be the seasonal red-eye and will be on the 767.

I find this interesting. With these announced changes thru late summer and fall and heading for winter, everything from BLI to the sunny Southwest destinations is being decreased in frequency. Maybe this is all normal seasonal adjustment but it seems a bit odd.

And as for SAN-BLI, the service ended last year in August and just re-started last month. The intriguing thing to me is that there still is no nonstop SAN-YVR service so I would think that might increase the interest in BLI-SAN... (I assume the flight will again be cancelled this winter...)

Seriously? Im not complaining i just bought $150 and $179 each ways on EWR-LAX which no way can cover their costs, but they really want to give virgin america as hard a time as possible. I dont even think they can fill all the seats at these prices my last EWR-SFO flight was almost empty like whole rows empty and i think i again paid $179 also, so easy and cheap to become an elite if you live in EWR/SFO or LAX these days so many miles for such a low price.

I'm seeing pretty normal G4 adjustments there. Travel drops off for a couple of months on many Allegiant routes once school starts back up in August/September. Frequencies will increase in Oct/Nov to match the increased demand. The same pattern repeats all over their system, not just at BLI.

On SAN-BLI, it is a seasonal route as noted in this Bellingham article.

My initial thought as well... but the big difference here is that JMS + DVL are both EAS cities, whereas GFK was not.

Here's Skywest's press release..

http://www.skywest.com/assets/Upload...sReleases/JMSDVLFlights3.11.14.pdf

To me, seems like an unnecessary example of an EAS city. JMS is about 90 minutes driving to both BIS and FAR, and DVL is about the same to both GFK and MOT.

Surprised that other new DCA frequencies/routes haven't appeared here yet en masse. Both WN and B6 got a bunch. And where is that little VX DCA-JFK slot?

AS is doing well on the route, but I think its too small of a market for 2 carriers both flying mainline.

Southwest has only run MCI-SEA during the warmer months for quite a few years now. It does look like they're ending the season earlier than last year.

No surprise that PMAA flights RJ service to PMUS hubs is being dropped without replacement. Mergers result in capacity being removed from the system. Maybe that lone AA coded flight LAX-PHX is for the regional to reposition or it is flown at-risk.

Clearly they are shifting the flying to US, which is to be expected. . . My only question is why do they even have one flight? Shouldn't they just have US do all the flying. I doubt one daily CRJ2 for AA will make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

We're beginning to see the rationalization of the overall network. Maybe the rational for keeping one flight is to allow for easier connections for international paxs to connect to AA instead of going to the US terminal?

Next will we see US exit DFW? I can see DFW-CLT, DFW-PHL going all AA.

Without doing all of the addition, I think US may have more capacity than AA on DFW-CLT and about the same on DFW-PHL. DFW-CLT on US is mostly 321, with a 752 thrown in, while AA is mostly M80 with a 319 or two. Neither is like ORD-CLT where US has 321s and AA is Eagle.

I don't think this is about capacity all that much - in all of these markets (LAX-PHX, CLT-ORD/LGA/MIA), the current AA (Eagle) capacity is minimal compared to the dramatically larger US mainline (and in some cases Express) capacity already present. If anything, I expect these immediate changes to draw down Eagle flying in now-hub-to-hub markets has more to do with simply offering a consistent mainline product on now-higher-volume routes, and the ongoing shortage of Eagle pilots, which is precipitating a drawdown in that flying.

Quoting seatback (Reply 31):
Next will we see US exit DFW? I can see DFW-CLT, DFW-PHL going all AA.

Why would they? In these hub-to-hub markets that are largely all mainline, anyway, the impetus isn't there to get rid of Eagle flying. And now they'll need all the capacity they can get, which is why - if I'm not mistaken - the CLT routes losing Eagle flying soon (ORD, LGA, MIA) will be back filled with mainline adjustments.

Quoting Cubsrule (Reply 33):

On DFW-CLT US definitely has more capacity today than AA. Although in the long-run I think the specific aircraft scheduling today, still largely based on each airline's pre-merger network orientation, is rather meaningless. Within a few years I expect both DFW/ORD-CLT/PHL to be largely the domain of 738s and A321s.

Yeah, not sure since it still shows 4x daily going forward. In fact by June it goes 2x CRJ + 1x CR7 + 1x CR9 so DL is supposedly adding larger aircraft to the route which had historically been all CRJs in recent time.

Just for fun, looking back in Summer 2005, NW operated 8x daily on DTW-CLE:
3x SF3
1x CRJ
1x ARJ
2x D9S
1x 320

Nah, normal seasonal changes for the markets. I'm not sure why they would have published something like BOS-PVC at 13x daily in November given that the traffic drops off a cliff after Labor Day. It's 3-4x daily this time of year. Plus the CNA operation is Part 135 so they're not getting hit by the pilot shortage like ZK or 3M.

That's what I was thinking, I thought I remembered the service extending into early november for WN, and when F9 was hub bed in MCI they operated a SEA non-stop as well. (though prior to AS entering the market)

Southwest stopped MCI-SEA during the slow season (January until early May) back in 2010 when it was only Midwest Airlines as competition. I think the off-season for WN has grown larger as the years have passed. In 2014 is only appears MCI-SEA operates from June 10 through September 1. in 2014 close to 80% is "off season". Strikes me as odd considering MCI is as strong as ever for Southwest. Perhaps it speaks for how Southwest does at SEA as much as anything. I guess it doesn't surprise me they don't battle Alaska in February, but 6/10 to 9/1 seems awfully short for a market they served daily for years.

Yes, I'm sure this is a "SEA-thing" and not on MCI. But unfortunately KC also looses the route; I'm sure WN has a place to use the airplane!

PHL-RSW has been seasonal so this might just be a seasonal cut
There has been no indication that PHL-FLL will restart next winter
I suspect you could see a few extra frequencies on MCO/TPA next winter but not sure if they will make up for these cuts

I understand B6 does not want to rush into PHL before they build a solid foundation but I think this really provides an opportunity to jump on FLL and potentially MCO and SJU. Say if they announce in late summer for a Jan start.

Otherwise I think you might see a few more frequencies on Frontier from ILG and TTN

It would not at all surprise me to see B6 jump on PHL-FLL/MCO/TPA this upcoming winter (if they can manage to find slack in their fleet).

Also wouldn't be surprise to them complement the service with PIT-FLL.

If it has the aircraft.. Along with those two, ORD-FLL and maybe CLE-FLL if it opens some CLE service. However, it seems B6 is busy with DCA, BOS business oriented routes and international out of it's focus cities/hubs more lately than northeast/midwest to Florida route additions.

Locally-I think it's more likely that ILG-FLL is started on F9 as 3-4x weekly.

It's also very likely that NK moves some or all ACY Florida flights over to PHL or there is no loss but PHL just gains more NK. If it cuts ACY Florida entirely, G4 or F9 would hopefully add that airport.

I'm surprised by this comment:
"Jeffrey Erlbaum, owner of ETA Travel in Conshohocken, said that if another carrier does not pick up the Florida routes, his clients might drive or take the train to Baltimore and fly from there."

Has US/AA already increased the fares after August, or does he have a distaste for either?
