I observed an Emirates 777-2 pull into a parking spot on the north side of runway 10L at FLL this evening. It appears she arrived from LAX. Any thoughts of the reason for the visit and when it will depart?

According to Flightaware she departs at 2110H directly to Dubai.

FLL-DXB is 12 hours and 45 minutes? Hmmm.. Interesting...
Seems to be a nice catch. I've spotted Emirates SkyCargo 747 at MIA before, but never seen the 777. And never would've imagined this at FLL.
Anyone know why she's a FLL? If I do recall, this isn't a scheduled cargo flight.
I'm going to head down to FLL and see if I can spot her.

The Florida Derby is a week from Saturday in Hallandale at Gulfstream Park. The winner usually goes on to compete in the Kentucky Derby.

I saw it when I was coming into work tonight and was wondering what it was doing here, somehow I knew there'd be a thread on it! Tried to get pictures from concourse F but the cell phone camera is woefully inadequate for that and i'd probably get in trouble if I were to have taken a tug and drive over there to see it.

You are correct. Have a coworker that also works the FedEx ramp and he explained that FX has a harsh stance on photos being taken during the Emirates operation that comes through FLL twice a year. To my knowledge this is the first time a 777-200F has been brought in, normally its operated with an A310F.

FLL's 28L is 9000 feet and is not far off from MIA's runways and is in ball park with 26L at MIA being shorter and two other runways at MIA within 1500 feet of FLLs. It is only MIA's 9/27 that is bigger by a great margin hence its use by the loaded cargo birds and the 380.

The Sheik's horses have their own private plane....a 744 with the callsign "Dubai 8". The royal hangar on the SE corner (just south of 30L) of the airport hold the entire royal fleet...I believe it's 3 744's, a 737, a B1900 and a few helos. Two 744's went out back-to-back a couple years ago to FLL for the race....Dubai 1 and Dubai 8....You can guess who was in Dubai 1.
I've never seen an Emirates 777 chartered to transport the horses but I guess it's possible.

That 77F operated out west via Stansted where a number of horses were loaded out of the Emirs stables here in Newmarket on Sunday afternoon.

Apparently they don't suffer much from jet lag, probably because horses only sleep 2.5 to 3 hours a day, and in many short stretches, rather than in one long unbroken period like most people.

Last year, a blue and white 744 came for the horses to FLL so I guess it was the "Dubai 8" that you mention. Thanks for the information!

Its this bird however as i said earlier its in Maintenance at moment.
It actually sends more time at Stansted (England) as the Emirs stables and training facilities are in the historical market town of Newmarket just 35 miles up the M11/A11 road.
