Emirates SkyCargo To Launch ATL

Fri Mar 28, 2014 10:01 am

http://www.ajc.com/news/business/emi...unch-freighter-flights-to-a/nfMd8/

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Emirates SkyCargo will launch service to Atlanta, with weekly freighter flights starting April 6, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport officials announced Thursday.

Emirates will be the 11th cargo carrier to serve Atlanta.

The service on Boeing 777 cargo aircraft between Atlanta and Dubai is expected to generate $6 million in economic impact annually in metro Atlanta, airport officials said. Cargo flights strengthen trade and help create jobs throughout the region, according to the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

I'm pretty excited to see some more variety in ATL! After losing a couple of cargo carriers recently, ATL was due some rebound! I hope this could possibly lead to pax flights in the future!

Sure about this routing? Haven't seen an Emirates Skycargo bird at IAH since Oct and that was a one-off flight from Spain. Now, Etihad Cargo is supposedly operating an IAH flight (utilizing Atlas Air metal), but heard nothing of Skycaro operating from IAH on a scheduled basis.

This is what Emirates SkyCargo publishes for April 2014:

- EK9992 the routing is ATL-IAH-CPH-DXB B77F Monday

- dep. ATL 02.10 - arr. 03.25 IAH dep. 05.25 - arr. 22.10 CPH dep. 23.40 - arr. DXB 08.10 B77F Monday

So you'll need to visit IAH in the middle of the night to see the aircraft.

I am SO EXCITED for this. With the BA 474-8 leaving in a few weeks, it will be nice to add one. We now have Qatar and Emirates from the ME. Hopefully one of these two will add passenger service within the year.

Aerologic flies on behalf of DHL. Occasionally LH Cargo also muses Aerologic metal.

EK9991 to ATL is via FRA, but I've not been able to find the exact routing.

I forgot about both. Singapore Cargo hasn't served ATL in almost a year now. They slowly dwindled down their schedule from 3+ flights a week to 2, then 1, then zero. They never formally announced a pull out of ATL but have not resumed scheduled service.

It is bound to happen sometime. Qatar said in 2012 that they would soon start service to ATL but nothing has happened. Qatar also has cargo service.
