Asiana Airlines First A380 Fully Painted

Fri Mar 28, 2014 1:50 pm

The first OZ A380 has been fully painted in Hamburg.

Aircraft registration is F-WWAP / HL7625

OZ plans to deploy the A380 first on June 13. Operating short haul services to Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong, Osaka Kansai and Bangkok. Until August 15, when it'll begin long haul services to LAX.

I like OZ livery on the A380, but it's nothing big IMO. Thoughts?

I don't really like it but that's just my opinion. I think it is far behind the likes of Thai in terms of beauty...

I'm not a huge fan of Asiana's livery in general (though I love their product).

Something about the gray top of the tail and the font...

The tail is very nice but the fuselage is just too plain white.
I wonder how it would have looked in their old livery.

Nothing special at all...much better on a 744.
In my opinion a larger "ASIANA AIRLINES" title would better fit the large white space on the fuselage

Didn't like it at all. Kind of reminds me of Royal Brunei's 787. Too much white on the fuselage.

Full agreement there, and maybe just ASIANA in a much bigger font, perhaps as large as F9 does theirs.

I think that all the A380s around look ugly because the A380 is not elegant... Nothing you can do about it.

I think it looks great, but then I see it more as a machine and I appreciate what it's capable of rather than something that needs to look good.

A380 will never look elegant (I stopped short of calling it ugly), but in my opinion the Thai Airways livery makes it a lot more palatable.

Asiana's, however...

I agree--it would have been nice to see them carry some of the tail colors onto the fuselage. But it has to keep maintenance costs down.

Whatever happened to those great liveries that Landor Associates used to produce? Today everything is so generic. I am really tired of the all white fuselage look. Maybe it is time to bring back the cheat lines.

The font needs to go at least twice the size but the tail colours bring out a kind of warmth to me.

In general I like it but the MH livery is far more impressive

I don't get this Asiana red tick, or a leaning 7, V or whatever else it's supposed to be. Also, the plain white engine colours makes the whole look somewhat duller to me.

They have all that real estate and they make the "Asiana Airlines" logo that small? Love the tail, but the title is tiny. If I bought one you'd be able to see the airline name from the space station.

The red tick is the logo of the Kumho Group, Asiana's parent entity and one of South Korea's famous "chaebol" industrial conglomerates. It's not really suggestive of anything, other than letting Korean passengers know that Kumho is in charge.

I don't think that livery fits very well. The tail colors end up being too low, and the huge fuselage is boringly white. The old livery would have interesting to see.

I generally agree, but Qatar's livery on the 380 is about as good looking as it gets, and almost makes me like the looks of the 380.

Asiana's livery is just too white, and I agree about the gray in the tail. It looks fine on the 777, but not here.
A good landing is one you can walk away from. A great landing is if the aircraft can be flown again.

When I was living in Italy I could not stand that car...but at Fiat it did not take long to realize the ugly creature that was released so they made a decent restyled model...however I am not quite sure Airbus can do the same with the ugly betty A380...hopefully a stretched version will improve the slimline but I wouldn't bet my money that there is a market for it

White, a sea of white. The engines need something, anything that might salvage this thing. Although, the plane is ugly to start with but I believe that it needs to have colour like KEs. Also needs something on the engines...maybe that would work and then maybe not.

The tail are OK and easily recognisable but I agree that the overall expanse of white is just overpowering and, all in all, I think this is the least attractive A380 scheme to have appeared to date.

With regard to the A380 itself, I think most observers would find it very difficult to describe it's appearance as beautiful, but its beauty in my opinion lies in what it is, what it is capable of and what it has achieved. It actually looks a bit like a quick drawing of an airliner that a child might make and I think the main factors contributing to its "ugly" appearance are its nose, its relatively short body for its size and its somewhat oversized tail. I would love to have seen it with a nose the shape of the A330/340, which I think is one of the most beautiful aircraft nose designs out there, but I guess aerodynamic factors determined this. I guess the tail has to be so big because of the relatively short body (just like the 747SP had a bigger tail than the other 747s). If a stretched A380-900 was ever produced then I think the extra length would make the whole aircraft look better proportioned....but it would still have that nose!

Despite saying all that, one amazing aircraft and I love it!

I think that's it. My first thought was "why does it look so much worse than the A380 in the QF colourscheme". The basics are the same: white aircraft with a swooshy thing on the tail that extends down over the fuselage.

The difference is that QF have (a) bigger letters, (b) "Spirit of Australia" takes up some white space, (c) the kangaroo on the engines that further kills white space.

While you couldn't call it "attractive", the A380 looks more proportioned in the QF colourscheme to the OZ one IMHO

Despite A380 being an amazing machine, I think its design is really too special. It could look better, maybe, if the cockpit was located on the second level, like the one of b747. But the Airbus solution with the low cockpit makes its forehead look like that of a not very sportive scientist...
