Cute commercial. A few folks here that don't speak Turkish at all even thought is was touching.

Who comes up with the theme, TK's new advertising agency?

Very touchy commercial.. Reminds me of most of the Turkcell commercials though...

I still think the national anthem commercial is the greatest...

I think Lowe is responsible for the creative inside Turkey, Crispin Porter & Bogusky is in charge of global campaings.

Todays TK A330 experience from FRA to IST:

Aircraft was swapped from "older" A333with Rolls engine to latest delivery with GE engines.
The newer deliveries have 40 instead of 41 rows. So, passenger that already checked in with a seat reservation were all seperately called back to the counter once the staff realized that the aircraft waiting at the gate had a different numbering system. This resulted in a delay of about 20 minutes.

Imagine: Whenever there is a late incoming aircraft and as a result TK changes the bird to another available a333, they will have to go through the same hassel.

Who can explain me the logic, why they have changed the seating arrangement in this particular way for the newer delivieres?

[Edited 2014-04-25 06:18:42]

I also added up the seat count on their older A330-300 and get definately more seats than their stated 289 in total. Does this mean that some of the seats that show up on their reservation screen do not exist? Or is the total seat count higher than 289? The newer seat map really results in 289 seats in total.

The International Air Cargo Association is hosting its annual general meeting in Istanbul this week.

TK as the host carrier participated in several presentations. Some interesting comments made by TK Cargo VP:

o New TK IST cargo terminal due to open in Q3. Will double handling capacity
o IATA says Turkey air cargo growth estimated 15% per annum next 5-years, much faster then global averages
o TK freighter fleet enjoys high utilization and load factors
o TK now has 35 freighter destinations. In 2013 saw 20% increase in FTKs
o 3rd IST airport with its multi-modal connections (rail/truck/sea) will provide tremendous advantage compared to other European hubs
o Istanbul becoming a regional distribution center as growing number of foreign companies relocate facilities to Turkey
o Istanbul now in top 20 of global cargo markets (19th place)
o Turkey with largest and low cost trucking fleet in Europe provides huge advantage for road feeder connections to Europe and other neighboring markets

Interview a few months back head of Netherlands cargo association did warn that European airports lose their competitiveness in cargo arena with things like curfews, high cost, and other business complexities.
He made specific mentioned that within 24-48 hours of arrival at IST most cargo can be delivered almost anywhere in Europe by truck network.

I think TK has opportunity to repeat their success with a passenger hub in cargo arena as well. IST is a great location for cargo transit also.

as u know, TK decided to phase out 340s , interim replacement is 8 leased 332s, which means 1760 seats( assuming 220 seats) versun 1890 seats of A340s, for sure new acquired 333 and 777 will close the gap but I think we can expect a 15-20 WB order for delivery of 2020.
Personally I think 788 will be perfect for long and thin routes in US or for increasing frequency in US(LAX,ORD,IAH) and 781 for trunk routes such as LHR, BKK etc, any comment?

I think TK will order the 789 and the 7810. The 787 is not competitive compared to its bigger brothers and TK will be able to fill a 789 on many routes.

i think 788 could be a perfect machine for opening new but far routes in US or South Africa and could eventually replace some 332 s routes in future.
can 779 do SYD non stop ( as per boeing web, iut is doable)

Again the main bottle neck are the ground facilities.

I am sometimes just wondering since I see that cargo fleet flying around asymmetrically opposite to their banks. Meaning that they fly seamingly rather O&D I thought.

cargo has often longer transit times as opposed to passengers. this might be one of the reasons; however, I think O&D to/from Turkey is still the main business of TK Cargo.

we heard 777F rumors many times during past 3-4 years.
i think A310Fs should be phased out and addition of 2-3 777F would be great for cargo fleet.
the first 5 A332 would be converted to freighters toward 2020

Yes there was an offer for a pair of 777F from Boeing and the commercial team at TK was in process of developing a business plan for their use, however the idea died as TK Chairmanship changed from Mr. Karatekin to Mr. Topcu and other management changes occurred.

As far as cargo connectivity its not as critical as passenger operations and 6, 12 or 24hour connections are common.
Also the manner the freight forwarder and courier companies work, night time operations are common.

I know they used the A330s to KHI when the flights to DAC stopped there. Also it had great arrival times.

TK is moving out of Terminal 2, used by *Alliance carriers, into Terminal 1 in Munich.

Another sign of TK being forced out of Star by LH?

TK is removing their own 77W bird from IAH beginning this July 27. It was reported several times that the Y+ section on their IAH flights was like a desert. The vacated 77W will most likely be utilized to GRU instead, since the world cup is coming closer.
