One final note to the update:

I forgot to list a Boeing 'Identified' order - 2 787-8's ordered on December 5, 2008 were identified as BBJ orders. Normally, this would not be worthy of any special note. However, as this 'customer' also ordered 13 787-9's on the same day, it confirms some information previously posted on the forum:

- One of our members (and my deepest apologies, as I have forgotten who it was. And you all know how terrible the so-called 'Search' function is on A.net) posted last year that this UFO order was placed by the Saudi Ministry of Finance. The -8's were to be used as VIP birds, while the -9's were to be leased to SV.
So why does this confirm that information? Quite simply - because the identification of the UFO -8 order coincides with the delivery of the first -8 BBJ to the Saudi Ministry of Finance. Which, in theory, would confirm that the 13 -9's are intended for SV. However, one final word of caution: apparently, an official agreement for SV to lease these frames from the Ministry has not been agreed to, yet. Therefore, while unlikely, it remains possible that they will end up someplace else.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Those 75 737 Max includes 60x for China Eastern and 15x for Turkish Airlines.

The mother company of Hong Kong airlines, Hainan Airlines, is quite a big player distributed on many subsidiaries. They found new airlines with new partners every year. I assume that either Hainan itself or some subsidiary will use the 10 A380.

They would not have been ordered by Hong Kong Airlines without Hainan giving the OK. So IMO the likeliest outcome is still Hainan doing something with them, they even could have done the deal through Honk Kong airlines to try to avoid some inner Chinese paper war.

I know Airbus are against such conversion deals so I wonder what exactly is going on here? Are these neos for Jetstar or could these be the beginning of the 737-800 replacements? I hope it's the former and not the latter.

There has been speculation that QF was going to cancel some of their A320 order to conserve cash / reduce financing costs, so this conversion might be a way for QF to do this while Airbus is able to keep the order on their books.

Exactly what I have speculated in the Australian Aviation thread. A great way to defer 'unwanted' aircraft short term while still saving face: switch to a later delivery model of the plane. That's why I have a hunch that there is more to this: could these 21x neos be in fact the beginning of the 737-800 replacements? We Aussies have often speculated that the QF order from a few years ago for 110 A32Xs was too big for just Jetstar in the current climate.

I am actually a bit surprised by this announcement because I expected stuff like this to be shared at Farnborough.

Airbus has also had massive cancellations this year (a total of 225 including 82 A350's).

A backlog of 2,843 NEO's is nevertheless awesome.

It was certainly their publicly stated position. However, I believe they've now sold more than all their planned ceo slots, so allowing conversions to neo now makes sense.

Not unusual, they don't save everything for the air show. Mind you: in 2013 Airbus announced hundreds new orders (including some big ones) before the start of the Paris air show.

Now Boeing believes Airbus is holding back orders and Reuters report we may expected orders for hundreds of new aircraft. Farnborough will be interesting for sure.
