Pretty sure it's rear-facing also getting the aisle facing ... and we haven't seen a picture of how the center seats are configured. Maybe it's reversed there (front face aisle and rear face in) ?

You can see in the back of the second photo on AA's website that the last row faces backwards and towards the aisle. if they were to reverse the layout for the central seats then every aisle passenger would end up directly facing another passenger.

Quoting VSLover (Reply 47):
but i am still baffled on how a single pair of these seats can occupy the whole center section.

Presumably there will be two columns of seats in the centre section, like every other herringbone layout out there?

Quoting klkla (Reply 48):
The materials used look really nice but to be honest those seats are going to be awkward having to face the other passenger at such a close distance.

I agree. Even an average person whose head rests directly on the centre of the headrest is going to be starting straight at the person at their feet and will be able to see the person right next to them in their peripheral vision. In terms of style and design though, these seats do look very nice.

They tell me the seat can compete with the best of the best.

I have flown that seat on CX many times, and all I can say is it's average. I don't like the lack of privacy created by the notch in the seat frame, and storage space is not great.

Quoting uberflieger (Reply 10):
Even the current business sliders are some of the best around.

Totally agree.

Quoting FoxBravo (Reply 20):
In BA's case at least, it's a clever way to maximize shoulder space as well as the number of seats.

That's what's baffling here. Looks like the shoulder space in the opposite seats aligns in this design, which would be most inefficient (like the UA design, although this of course if far better). Something is strange.

Quoting klkla (Reply 48):

They do. Overall looks very stylish, more than CX or the current AA 77W product.

??? Slanted J has already been deemed outdated by the time the first true flat beds arrive in the mid-2000s. The slanted regional J by SQ/BR is better than NGBC, but those are only for 3-5 hour regional segments.

From what I can tell from that sneak peak, it looks very stylish and nice. Seems we have AA and DL trying to up the bar for US carriers..

Does anyone else think it might be uncomfortable staring at the person who is in the seat next to you? Other than that it looks exceptional.

AA specifically tested for this issue.

First of all, the shell is above almost all sight lines. (In short, you would have to be very tall to be staring over at the person in the next seat.)

Second of all, what you are seeing is the seat in its fully-upright position. If you recline the seat at all, your sightline to the other seat is fully blocked.

What are the dimensions relative to the AA 77W J seat? or CX?
I don't take responsibility at all

13.5 square feet compared to 11.15 square feet on the AA 77W/CX seat (which are identical).

Well done to AA. It is nice to see a US carrier believing in the power of design while actually designing their cabin product.

From a design perspective, as much as I love Delta, their cabins are stark and sad compared to the photos of this cabin.
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

Nope. That's the seat's "living space" (which is what is most important to a passenger). The design allows more of them to be fit into the same space versus the 77W seat.

Anyone know what the configuration will be in terms of number of seats? Looks like AA has found a way to offer a very spacious product at a higher density than the Cirrus design,

Something about 45 J and about 259 total seats ?

The old one is 53 premium seats (F+J) for a total of 247 seats

So total seat count up mium seats decreased by 15%

Looks like a great design, although not my personal favorite color palette. Bet they patented the hell out of the design.

I'm due to fly EZE-MIA in J on an AA 772 in late October of this year -- any chance it will be on a refurbished frame? What routes will they be deploying this on initially?

Wow. AA did a really nice job. The design and choice of materials -- compare it to DL's use of base model seats and cheap plastic.

Yeah, BA was the benchmark here, not Delta or UA.

Even Delta's new look on its transcon 757's seems cheap and contrived by comparison to what AA has done here.

This is an industry-leading Business Class product and AA should be commended for stepping up their game in the international arena for premium product offerings. The seat will hold its own against foreign carriers who have traditionally offered a much better travel experience.

the seat is meant to launch to/from SCL and they have been otherwise quiet on future launches.
