Interesting to see CX introducing new business class seats. However, IMO the SQ case, in which the new C Class seats were not as highly praised as the previous ones due to the fact that SQ had already outdone itself via its previous seats, may happen to CX unless it abandons its current reverse herringbone seating.

The CX business class seat is fantastic as it is, far preferable to SQ's overwide benches. CX better be careful here.

I guess it's just me but these newer Business and even some First Class cabins these days look like an office floor full of cubicles at weird angles. I know once you're in your 'space' its supposed to be comfortable but it just looks claustrophobic to me.
The picture of the male passenger in the JAL 'Sky Suite' is the best example of this, he looks like he has been placed in confinement.
Emirates seems pretty good I think, but even their first class 'cabins' would seem confining to me. To each his own but Lufthansa has it just right, especially having a real bed right next to a proper seat that's not at an angle, for me that's the best way to travel.

Maybe. CX is probably more towards the 'office cubicle' style design, but not nearly to the extent of some, e.g. NH.
However the wear and tear in my last SQ J seat was far from luxurious. I get that cabins have to get old at some point.
I think the SQ cabin might look luxurious from the front of the cabin looking back, but from the back of the cabin looking forward I don't like the look of the screens, black plastic etc. Just my $0.02.

Has Porsche Design ever done an aircraft seat before?
Going to be extremely interested in seeing that when it comes out. I know a lot of people love AA's hard product (which uses the same seat), but the colors and look are just completely off and aren't sexy at all. I hope Porsche takes the Zodiac model to the limit!

you're not alone, many look to me like a cross between a cubicle and a dentist's chair....
Had my first CX experience a couple of weeks ago in Y+ and was impressed. The article didn't give any info on the new Y I'd be interested to see what they are planning for the back of the bus

Lufthansa has made their First and Business Class seats into pure-seats/beds without the "suite" structure while most other airlines are increasing the privacy of the passengers. Amazed that the newly introduced Economy already getting a makeover on the new flagship!!! Had my experience on CX's J & Y+ seats last month, J seat was amazingly long, I mean with my feel extended all the way I can't even reach the ottoman in T/O position, and I'm at 5'8", Y+ seats are very comfortable however the fact that you cannot move the center armrest makes you confined into only your seat, regardless if the seat next to you is empty or not.
Wondering what the CX new business is gonna look like, any ideas what CX will be doing with it's most popular J seats so far? More amenities? Wider seats?

Width isn't everything, when you are NOT 6'5" and need a lot of shoulder room, wide seats = swimming in your seat especially on long journeys, and since it's so wide, you do NOT get great lumbar support as a narrower seat.

or improve the bottom line on European routes currently, or about to be, operated by their 3 class B77Ws.
Heck, even LHR has Cathay service with only J, Y+ and Y these days !!
The A350 seems an absolute shoe-in for Europe and Cathay.

Modern business seat are so narrow but very functional, I really hope they can be wider.

The first class product on LH 747-400s is a stop-gate solution. Lufthansa did not want to incur the cost of moving the first class cabin downstairs to zone A and make use of the new product on 747-8s. Therefore, it simply removed one seat from the upper-deck first class seat pair, re-upholster the seat next to the aisle, and install a bed next to the seat. Because the bed counts as a fixed monument rather than a seat, certification costs for the next combination was much lower than that of a new seat. The product would not survive the (on-going) retirement of the 747-400s. It is hard to imagine any airline adopting such a combination in designing a new cabin.

Bloody hell! They can't leave it alone can they? Seems every other month they're introducing a new first/ business class! I'd be surprised if the vast majority of people notice, as they're changing it so often.

Most of NRT ICN SIN are flown with the regional product, not the long-haul Cirrus one.
Any long-haul route currently on A340-300 would be a good candidate for first A350-900 deployment.

I never thought of it that way but you hit the nail right on the head. The CX "coffin" seats (herringbone one generation prior to current) were perfect examples of this. Looked claustrophobic but once you were in the seat it felt cozy and private. The built-in massager in the seat-back was awesome!

In HK every such change is aggressively advertised. When they introduced the new Business Class a couple of years back, they even had a mock-up of four seats in IFC Mall (major upscale mall in HK) for a few days. You could try the seats out and flight attendants would talk them up.
In HK and many other parts of Asia, business travel is business class if you have any prestige in the world. Prestige is aggressively pursued in this culture so upscale products are very important.

Also ex-HKG is simply a very competitive market, with lots of full-service carriers offering brand new products at relatively low prices (e.g. SQ/KE/BA A380s) CX consistently charges a premium over other airlines on long haul routes. The airline has to justify it somehow.

Correct. A359 and A3510 would be heavily used for OZ, mid-haul and intra-asia routes.
Don't forget that SYD, MEL, ADL, CNS, BNE and PER are currently all-airbus ports where a lot of CX's OZ pilots are based.

I doubt they will initially be going heavily to Australia. CX will initially run the A350 as a separate fleet for the pilots. Apart from doing a few regional flights like all of CX's fleet do, the A350 will be used on longhaul flights more initially. They will open up new destinations as well as replace the 77W on flights where the lower operating costs are needed more.
