Delta Painted A B757 In Retro DL Colors!

Sun Apr 13, 2014 7:45 pm

In ATL and saw that Delta has painted a B757-200 in a retro paint job and it looks fantastic! Don't know the reg but hope to see her up close soon! Look out Gemini Jets!

What's really needed is a retrojet - perhaps a 757 or 737-900 in the Royal Crown treatment, similar to the 880 delivery scheme.

This is Delta s 85th anniversary year. Maybe it is painted for that. I do not think that they would paint a retro scheme on the bird scheduled for the museum. Of course I could be wrong.

Someone said here it was N608DL and it would be painted in the Widget livery.

While that livery is nice, we've already seen the 757 in those colors and they still have Spirt of Delta to display in that livery.

N675MC, a DC-9 is going to the museum too. Is that going to be repainted into a retro scheme? There already are DC-9s in the current paint scheme on display elsewhere.

And this is one of those threads where if you see something out of the ordinary, you need to take a picture of it :P

IMO the 80's widget with the black nose. Those piston-era schemes just don't look right on a jet.

It looks like the 7th one, it's not the B767 it's a B757 and sitting close to the paint hangar. If you drive up to Concourse F you will catch a glimpse.

Delta doesn't need to look any further for a retro look than the widget with black nose.

That would be the scheme they were delivered in.

Those particular deliveries cover from approximately from the early 40s to before 2006. (the top one is the same as what the "Spirit" was painted for the 75th anniversary)

I can confirm it is ship 608 / N608DA (not DL as posted above), and it is indeed in the black nose widget scheme. Unfortunately, it would be unwise of me to post a picture before it has been publicly presented.

Regardless, get youselves ready for a bad-ass piece of history.

I would venture to say that a plane out in the open at one of the busiest airports where anybody can see it would count as it being publically presented. Surely someone must have a picture of it!

LOL my thoughts exactly.

So, not the crap in the punch, but it really wasn't that long ago that we saw 757's in these colors. When was the last widget 757 re-painted? Early 2004? It's cool, don't get me wrong, it just looks sort of, I dunno... is 2004 really "retro?" Especially given how long it took Delta to re-paint jets, it comes off more as "hey, they missed one!" rather than "hey cool, a retrojet!"

Well, given how awful the two subsequent liveries were, many of us were pleased by how long it took for the classic widget scheme to be repainted. And it still looks better than today's.

What a wonderful looking homage to their heritage. Who would have thunk that there'd be an honest, dyed-in-the-wool Widget 757 with PTV's?

608 hasn't flown a revenue flight in over six months. Museum bound?

Either way it looks very nice. That livery never needed to be changed.

I fondly remember this color scheme and wish it had lasted as long as AA's classic livery did. I am glad to see it back, even though it will be in the museum where we can already see the Spirit of Delta in these colors. Perhaps the DC-9 will be painted into these colors, too? I am sensing a theme, here

What a shame if true... Unless it is museum bound, what would be the reason they would give a special livery to a plane that would not be used in service over a plane that would be used in service?

If only I had been hired by them 37 years ago. They have, apparently, created an airline that can now stand proud again. I certainly have envy, and great respect for their organization.

A question, as with the countless threads in reference to the new AA livery, why does everyone get so excited when an American airline fiddles around with their livery? Is it because these airlines have a reputation of being bland and boring?
