Sorry it isn't the best quality, but it was a cold, snowy day

I'm not sure if this is the first one, and they started numbering at 103. Today, it was only doing proving runs, and was not on an actual revenue flight.

No, but 105 is at ORD at the hangar, and it does have them.

103 is supposed to be modified sometime this summer.

I think this plane will really be a game-changer for the big gap in United's domestic product. In markets where this plane is the right size, pax will definitely prefer it compared to a 3x3 plane configuration. The ATC side of me isn't thrilled to see smaller planes replacing mainline-sized planes on high frequency routes to slot-controlled airports (LGA-DCA) but I'm not the marketing expert.

I know UA tries to keep the LGA and BOS flights in the B gates but for the cities that aren't the dedicated business markets, it'd be nice if they could keep the E75s away from T2 if at all possible. T1 gates have a lot more waiting space for pax and this plane has a better chance of being showcased in T1 instead of being lumped in with the E145/CRJ nightmare that T2 has become.

I am not sure I see much difference from the 70 seat 170. I don't think 6 seats will make that big of a difference. The one benefit is that those 6 seats are added with little additional cost, but I don't see a significant change other that CRJs going away.

Big improvement over a CR7; otherwise, not really all that much to get excited about, IMO. I had a chance to check out the new Republic E75 flying for American Eagle, and it was okay. I'd pick the plane over any CRJ-series, but I'd still pick a 737/32S over these any day.

The big first SkyWest Junglebus!!!! How quickly the RAH Groups pseudo monopoly on "regional" US Junglebus operations fades... when does Mesa receive the first 175?

Assuming UA will use the same coding as US and DL (at least what I've seem from booking), 170's should show up as "E70" and 175s should be noted as "E75". The confusion will more likely stem from how they start shuffling between CR7s/E70s/E75s on routes that already have CR7 and/or E70 service. At least the CR7 and E70 have the same F capacity, though the CR7 has a boatload of E+ vs the E-Jets. Whenever they inevitably have to start subbing routes people began to like the E75s on with E70s or CR7s then you'll hear screams of bloody murder.

It's not a big difference, but in the fleet and network it is a big difference, because that 12F/76 total pax config really does better fit some of the business markets than the CR7 and E70. Look where it's starting out -- ORD-DCA/LGA. That way they can still get the F business on the route, a few bucks from E+ buy-ups, and free up a 319 to do other duty. Obviously that doesn't address that in effect these will be swapping for some mainline on given routes, but overall in the system it's a welcome upgrade.

Well, to RAH's credit, they were one of the first airlines to fly these aircraft---especially in as large a fleet as they have (and I think they are owned/leased by RAH.) SkyWest, until the MRJ order, has never really been one to heavily invest in an untried airframe until they've been in service a while.

Mesa got their first one last week.

It's a very nice plane! Hopefully we will see some long haul CR7's be replaced by these. I wouldn't have a problem with sitting 3 hours on one of those.

Do you notice that much difference? I have flown now on UA (Both CR7 and E70 in F/Y/Y+ on each), US (E70 and E75 in Y) and DL (CR7/9 in F/EC/Y in each), and I have to say I don't notice too much difference for similar products. The F especially seems very close, particularly CR7/9 vs. the other CR7/9, MAYBE the EC seems a hair roomier than Y+ on UA. But other than the structural cabin differences between an E-Jet and a CR7/9, I haven't seen much difference at all in hard product.

The hard product is pretty much interchangeable, although US/DL often have wifi. It's the shelf stable box 'o crap in F while others are serving actual meals that is something best avoided.

I have no idea. I haven't been back in the US for months. When I do fly domestically, I go way out of my way to avoid flying on the E145s that are sometimes the quickest option. I will go through DEN or IAH to the east coast instead of ORD to avoid the E145 even though ORD would be much more convenient.

I've been in F on the CRJ7 and E170 but nothing longer than 2 1/2 hours. The lunch box and drink service in a plastic cup was just fine as I'm not one of those people who walk on an airplane and immediately become totally helpless and need to be waited on hand and foot. Some of the complaints I've seen on here have been comical.

Not huge but consider an E75 potentially doing 3 roundtrips between ORD and DCA a day. UA's fare is showing $340 1-way. 6 extra seats times 6 legs at $340 is a tad over $12,000. That's $12,000 not going into UA's bank account for very little added expense of operating the slightly larger plane. The E175 maximizes the SCOPE limitations ALPA has placed on United.

I hope this evolves into a UA order for an E190/195 once the FA contract issues get settled. AA already has the E190's and DL has the 717's for these types of missions.

Interesting. So the company didn't agree to these "limitations"? Had ALPA placed scope language with no capitulation from the company these aircraft would be mainline. Negotiation is a two party endevour.

You just have to know your regionals...

SkyWest and Mesa are only flying the E175, where Shuttle America on United Side only flies the E170. So in addition to looking for the Aircraft Type, look for the "operated by". That will give you a better idea of which aircraft type.

It shouldn't...that would require a swap of airline AND crew. To swap from Mesa/SkyWest E175 to a Shuttle America E170 or vice versa would be a headache for scheduling. Not impossible, but I don't know if that is allowed or could even be done.

What actual meals are you getting on DL? I was in F on a Shuttle 175 this AM to DCA and got a stale bagel in a plastic bag.

Add to that the trip cost difference is virtually nil. If lease rate trends are about the same as they were a couple years ago, the E75 will cost just a few bucks more than a 70, the flight crew will make just about the same or a couple bucks/hr more, and you don
t need any more FA's if memory serves. So lots of potential extra revenue for very low marginal cost. And these are additional F seats at that so the potential revenue is definitely there. Granted, F may sometimes go to some upgrades, but on a full flight a TOD F seat may free up an extra full-fare Y seat in back.

There are definitely markets where you can sell the F seats but you just don't need the full 120-150ish pax that say a 73G or 320 would bring to also offer 12F. IMHO that's why the E75s are going to ORD-LGA/DCA, because those shuttle routes really don't NEED 120 pax an hour, but you can put 60-70 pax with 10-12 of them in F for sure.

Yes, I'm totally helpless and demand service like Naomi Campbell ... Or I don't see the value of an F seat on a UA large RJ. When I fly for work I avoid them for that reason, and when I fly for leisure and occasionally pay out of pocket for an upgrade, I'll only do it on mainline.

That is definitely a minus. The only time that was decent at all is when they used United's old Rite Bite box, which was very good, for the box.

I've never been a claustrophobic person, but that about killed me.

I can't find it on the DL website now, but I remember reading a couple years ago that they did put ovens in at least some large RJs. That would put them head and shoulders above UA for sure with their snack boxes and cold cuts at best.

Interesting, I thought you were speaking from experience given how positive you were about the differences in service. I do fly DL on a regular basis, and I've never gotten a meal on the 175. Usually you're offered an item from the snack basket. I also fly UA on a regular basis. On United I've been offered the snackbox http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont.../travel/inflight/economy/menu.aspx

The powers that be -- long ago decided frequency trumped size-of-aircraft in El Paso. So the pmCO 735s disappeared, and the ExpressJet 145s took over.

I know it exists, plus they've had several press releases talking about new fresh food on shuttle routes, which tend to be 175s as well. Look up CR7 first class and one of the first pics is a DL meal; this guy also got a meal on a 175:

In my experience the OO FAs are some of the best in the entire network. I did YYZIAH in F and the LF was 100%, while Y was a third full. I think everyone was gazing wistfully at the wide open Y cabin and wondering whether it was all worth the snackpack .

It's actually been doing that for the past two weeks, and will more than likely be doing it up until start of service. It's a nice, 1 hour block for the crews to get operating experience on.

Wow! I only saw it today, but it makes sense... I hope MCI gets a few of them especially to replace the CR7 MCI-SFO 4 hours block time!!

I hope UAL doesn't install the new UAX seats on the 175s. I hate to be a whiner, but the new seats really are hard and very uncomfortable.

Well, the LGA-DCA/BOS flights are what 45 minutes in the air max??
ORD-LGA serves cold breakfast (cereal), and a larger salad or sandwich on Lunch/Dinner flights. I do believe there is talk to place ovens on them again.
Check out airlinemeals.net. You can see what they serve.
UAEx doesn't come close to what DLC or AE serve, and the way things are looking, I don't see anything of the sort coming.

It would be nice if UAEx brought these E75s out west to fly these long, thin flights out of SFO, and LAX. LAX-OKC/TUL/AUS/SAT/MSP would be excellent routes for the E75.

To some operators the E75/90/95 is a mainline workhorse. As someone else mention I think USA airlines are a bit scizo about what to call it. Will we be calling the CS100/300 a 'regional'? Do we call the 717, DC9s regionals?
My rule is if there is room above my 6'2" frame its mainline.

The paycheck and work rules attached to it decide whether something is mainline or not in my book. To me, anything pure jet SHOUD be mainline.

I've never been a Junglebus fan. Overheads are too small, the rear end sways like a happy dog wags his tail and the engine don't make enough bleed air at low power settings to keep the cabin pumped up in a descent. Autothrottles exacerbate it.

Then we have the guys who turn every light on when crossing every runway, closed or not. When taxiing behind one at night and crossing 5/23 during a northbound operation (that runway is not in use) there is not enough distance in the world to keep between yourself and the hind end of that airplane to prevent eyeball pain when they turn on the strobes. It looks like a cross between a turbine powered severe thunderstorm and a disco club. They are easy to pick out in there though, and that's the point.

My rule is that if it's a regional crew flying it and working the cabin, it's a regional. I can't think of any situations where it is any other way.

Delta's rule for a plated 'meal' at 900-1499 miles is a departure time at meal times. Hot meals come at 1500+ miles but I can't think* of any E70/E75/CR7/CR9 routes that far - even DTW-SLC and MSP-RSW wouldn't qualify. If UA is going to schedule E75s on 1500+ mile routes I don't think a direct food comparison would be possible.

* off the top of my head; thorough schedule research not attempted

I just know that we never get a meal in F on the route where I get most of my upgrades (BZN-MSP, 874 miles). Maybe I should start flying out of HLN (HLN-MSP is 913 miles). But we had a nice chicken dish on my recent CR9 flight from SEA to LAX (954 miles).
